New TIS for Route 93 Medford on 1690 AM

Just noticed a new TIS for "Highway Advisory Radio on Interstate 93 in Medford" on 1690 AM, coming in fairly well at my apartment in Somerville. It's running a repeating "test message" loop.

Really? Is the sign northbound, southbound, or both? I had not noticed it before.
I pass this way every day, on my way to work. Will Have to check it out!

I have been looking for a sign on 93 about this station, but I have not noticed one yet.
Where is it physically located? I pass that way every day on my way to work...

Is there necessarily a sign—isnʼt it more likely the xmtr is attached to a utility pole? Have you tried listening to the station while on 93 in the Medford area and homing in on it that way?

I am not sure if the radio in the Winter car (2002 Mercury Sable) will
tune up that far, but will try to listen for it on 1690, going home tonight

I listened for this station on my way in to work, this morning. Could barely hear it
leaving my place (Fenway) solid copy by right near Boston Garden, going up 93 a short
way. Appeared to be a stronger signal to the south, than to the north. Does anybody
have more information as to their exact transmitter location?

I thought the FCC made that illegal for TIS to retransmit NWS.

Not sure, but they're not the first new TIS station in the Country to use the National Weather Service for testing purposes. A few years back the Connecticut DOT set up 1670 AM in Southington and they ran the National Weather Service for a few weeks before switching over to the Connecticut DOT Highway Advisory Radio.

Manchester, CT, has a station on 1630 that runs town government announcements with NWS weather as filler between the blocks of announcements. Not a test, been doing it for years.
