Just noticed a new TIS for "Highway Advisory Radio on Interstate 93 in Medford" on 1690 AM, coming in fairly well at my apartment in Somerville. It's running a repeating "test message" loop.
Really? Is the sign northbound, southbound, or both?

Is there necessarily a sign—isnʼt it more likely the xmtr is attached to a utility pole? Have you tried listening to the station while on 93 in the Medford area and homing in on it that way?I have been looking for a sign on 93 about this station, but I have not noticed one yet.
Where is it physically located? I pass that way every day on my way to work...
Now it's rebroadcasting NOAA Weather Radio (from Blue Hill).
I thought the FCC made that illegal for TIS to retransmit NWS.
Not sure, but they're not the first new TIS station in the Country to use the National Weather Service for testing purposes. A few years back the Connecticut DOT set up 1670 AM in Southington and they ran the National Weather Service for a few weeks before switching over to the Connecticut DOT Highway Advisory Radio.
