KCOH 1230

Rad10 said:
It happened right at midnight. I hope all goes well with their new venture!

They had a simulcast on both 1430 and 1230 of an announcement about the NEW KCOH along with The National Anthem. They went into music, and cut the STL feeding 1430. Now, 1430 is carrying white noise along with weak audio from KGOW under it. This brings to mind, when will the the new programming begin in 1430 and where will their studios be located.

OLD CHICAGO

The audio on 1230 is a vast improvement over the audio on 1430. There's actually some "bottom end" in it now.

I believe the "sports" audio you hear faintly in the background on 1430 is the "sports" station on 1430 in Tulsa (formerly KELI).

Congratulations to everyone involved!!!

Andy is right about the Tulsa station. At night, it clobbered KCOH on the west side. On 1230, I'll be able to hear it again, albeit a weak signal.

As long as they don't splatter their high end all over KMVL 1220 - one of the real jewels in the area.

1430 still off the air at a 8:30a check.

Haven't checked for the TOH ID on 1230, is it still KQUE?

Meanwhile, the "Baila" format is still going on 101.7.

I believe that 1430 will stay off until the satellite equipment arrives (and is installed) for the new format/owners at the transmitter site.

My understanding is that the KCOH calls moved to 1230, as well. I believe that the TOTH I.D. that I heard at midnight was, in fact, with the KCOH calls.

There is no doubt about. They are definitely playing off of another stations good reputation. It appears this outfit isn't above a little "misleading" promotion in order to make a buck; and, frankly, it stinks.

So does this mean the KQUE calls are officially gone in Houston? Seriously? They've been a part of the dial here for MANY years. Guess it's for the best, though. It hasn't been the real KQUE in 15 years anyway.

Everybody together, for one last time: "K-Q-U-EEEEEE, F M 103" R.I.P. KQ. As a city, we're sorry someone didn't step up to save you from what you became. Hope one day you and KNUZ can sit down and reminisce about the good times you two used to have together. The transmitter on Ennis will be the meeting place.

As for 1430...I'm not sure these folks are really worried about the calls proximity to KSBJ. After all, I don't remember an uproar over CBS's KHJZ and Cumulus's KHJK when they were both a part of our dial at the same time. That conspiracy is a bit of a stretch, folks. C'mon now...we're better than that. :-[

Actually, the KNUZ/KQUE reunion will be on 4/21 at Los Tios Restaurant for all former employees.

Ill attempt at humor, Chuck. I was speaking literally of the two signals as if they could actually do such a thing. Glad to know that the people that made those two radio stations the legends that they were do reunite and enjoy fellowship with each other every year. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that won't be duplicated with the stations of today's era in the future.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't 980 AM KQUE for almost two years now. They used to be KRTX. 980 AM covers most of Houston so technically the KQUE call is still in town.

Yes, it is. You're not wrong, but when I posted that in 2013, 980 was still KRTX. Aleluya applied for the calls in late March 2013, a couple of weeks after the above was posted.

This is what happens when people bump ancient threads...
