Ahhhhhh! Talk Radio. The smell is in the air right here in our very own forums.
Reminds me of the odor of one of those cattle feeder lots. And you don't have to be a cowboy to sense one of those establishments.
One has to wonder whether a new "herd" of investors might have gotten interested in making something more useful, more robust out of AM radio... but they were all scared away because they were afraid the ad industry could not be convinced that AM radio was once again viable and useful.
I have no quarrel with political expression.... if fact I rather enjoy it. But it needs to be in good taste and it needs to have, to use the wordss of the SCOTUS decision years ago, a socially redeemable purpose and content.
I have an example from today. I had a doctors appointment and it was a 30 to 40 minute drive and our weather is schitzo today so I punched up our FM Talker. The guy was going on and on and on about does the president love our country and then a segue into "Do our citizens love our country". He presents a survey that (I don't remember the EXACT nmbers but something about like this: 97% of the people surveyed over the age of 65 said they love our country. 9%% of the people over 45 said they love our country. But people 21 to 35... only 88% love our country. I went in to see the doctor, came out, and the guy was still ranting and at this point his mental frame had degenerated to the point that he was spewing: "Young adults who haven't faced the draft don't love our country by a four to one ratio. What had been 88% when I left the car now became 25%. (97% equals 3% old don't love country, 88% equals 12% don't love country. 3 compared to 12 becomes four to one. Thirty minutes later his chatter had composted until he was saying young people don't love our country by a ratio of 4 to 1.
We may have some incompetent congressmen and senators, but we absolutely do have some incompetent talk radio.
