PLJ vs FRESH

Both these stations identify as "hot ac" and the sound of the hot ac format has been evolving to where it is similar to "CHR". They always place outside top 10 rating status, probably more like the top 15. They have both been making some tweaks to their playlists and of course PLJ has revised the morning show. I would think one of these stations should be trying to pull listeners from "ac" LITE FM rather then lean towards a more CHR sound.

Based on their current presentations and music selections which station will improve their ratings? Your thoughts...

What format, music adjustment might improve their less then spectacular rating situation? Your thoughts...

I dunno... I have a theory that once you find a station you like, you stick with it for life, or until it changes so much you no longer care to listen.

isn't lite always in the top 2 or 3? and now that PLJ dropped so far, always in the low 20s?
But listening to some of the music on PLJ when i do check out the morning show for a few breaks....it's not quite my tastes, but some of the time it's not bad. they even venture into a bit of light rap after a decade of being the station that had 'no rap' in it's slogan. my guess is right now they are throwing any kind of music out there to see if anything sticks..

Also, the morning show is on vacation this week, and one of their opening songs to start the show was 'another one bites the dust'. wonder if that was the last show for todd and monk. i'd honestly be shocked it they left before may.

ill repeat myself...how about a more female rock station.....kick ass music is very underrepresented in nyc.

Do you mean female rock artists or air talent? PD's that I have known in the late 70's and 80's wouldn't play female artists back to back..??? And a Pd in 1985 I worked with didnt want 2 female DJ's following another female on air. WE had about 6 females on staff..Part time and full time. He was in a top 50 market. The PD I had in top 100 market didnt have a problem with scheduling two females on air back to back. We were the only 2 females on staff.

wouldn't play female artists back to back..? those same clueless morons wouldn't play 2 fast songs back to back either...they would play freebird with no breaks or id go right into hey jude..........awful

i dont really care about female talent most dj's have been interchangeable for decades.....we are finally seeing some actual intelligent women on the radio.. http://danaloeschradio.com/

In my opinion PLJ should improve in the ratings based on their music rotation and the personality driven presentation. Although Fresh claims "better variety" it seems it has narrowed the playlist to currents and recurrents of the same "flavor" for lack of a better term. PLJ has been mixing a few jandra's and going back into the 90s and occasional 80's. Perhaps PLJ can grab some listeners away from LITE. Its hard to argue that Lite is successful but I would think some listeners will eventually tire of Delila and a month and a half of Christmas music every year and seek an alternative station.
