WBEN now on HD3

WBEN was on WTSS HD2 but is now on WKSE HD3. Not sure why the change.

Ho-hum. 17 people with HD radios - which includes the engineers in town - will have to adjust. Are they perhaps playing translator games? I'd have to care enough to track it down, which I don't.

Just curious:

How long was it before radio guys stopped talking about "AM stereo" like it was anything more than a novelty for engineers to geek-out over?

Most of us knew that, after all the delays, AM stereo was too late to make any difference. Had it happened as originally planned around 1977 or 1978, it could have made a major difference.

It could be the fact that WKSE has a new transmitter and that Nautel NV40 was ready for HD3 without the costs involved for upgrading an older system in place at WTSS (still running their original HD transmitter, a BE FMi1405.) Plus, you can deliver audio to the site on the existing stereo STL for *two* mono stations (WBEN and WGR) using L for one and R for the other, so hey, don't need to buy another STL!

I think there are more HD radios out there then what some might think! I have several at home and one in each car. Yes, I am a "Radio Geek" that is why I joined this board!

Anyway I like the fact that I can listen to WBEN or WGR without the noise of and poor sound of AM. I like the fact that stations can multicast. I just wish there was more HD2 & HD3 stations. My only complaint about putting WBEN on HD3 of 98.5 is too much intermod in downtown. The analog and HD goes away. Yes, then I am forced back to AM. I didn't have that issue on 102.5 HD2.
As a side note: 107.7 HD2 "The Lake" has been quiet for weeks, finally dead I assume.

Is there any HD channel that would filter out all the right wing nutjob garbage on WBEN? I'd even put up with AM reception to listen to that channel.

No, but you can shut it off when Limbaugh, Hannity, or Savage (if he qualifies?) come on.

WPJYFM-good to see another AM listener here, just be prepared to get responses like this and be ridiculed when criticizing a public radio station.

Opinions, everyone has them. I think WBEN should have shows on the right and left to be fair. I like the right, but that is because the left spends my tax money then lies to justify it. Why did 1520 WKBW have talk for the left than drop it so fast? I do get tired of national talk shows but they have to fill with something. Same news 24x7 does not bring ratings either. Look at CNN or any other news station. They fill with stuff other than news. Public radio has good news coverage in the morning but too fluffy at other times.

I remember a time when there were shows that did not go right or left but instead presented both sides of the issues. The trouble is most people prefer emotions to facts. The facts are sometimes boring unless you find a good communicator who can make it interesting. It's more entertaining to hear someone throw jabs from the bully pulpit.
