Lin Sue Cooney to leave 12 in May

FYI..."A Farewell to Lin Sue," Fri. May 29, 6pm, KPNX.

We have a potentially dangerous situation going on in Phoenix as I write this, and they're airing self-serving claptrap? I get it that Lin Sue is a well-loved anchorwoman who's leaving the station, but this should have been postponed.

Breaking news should always take precedence, and there is no excuse for canceling a 6 PM newscast for any reason. News is the only reason for a local TV station to exist anymore.

I generally agree with your posts Keith but this one seems a bit far-fetched.

What is the " potentially dangerous situation going on in Phoenix" you speak of? I seem to be as informed as the next person and haven't heard of any calamity rapidly approaching.

The "news" in Phoenix TV is of two types - either a regurgitation of the network news (which are basically just headlines) or house fires and vehicle wrecks (with the occasional chopper rescue of some dumbass who goes hiking without water in the middle of Summer).

I fail to see why skipping one evening news program will bring chaos and disaster to our beloved city (even though I am not a fan of anyone on 12neeeeeeews whose lead anchor still cannot pronounce Arizona correctly).

Bad move by 12. I understand that the date was fixed, but would it have hurt to broadcast the special (if it wasn't live) at some other time?

I thought the special was nice. When news returned after that, I think more people showed up to the (still non-violent) protests and the police separated the two groups with barricades. Did I miss anything else?

You are correct. He did sports for a long time and didn't replace Kent Dana until about 2004. His bio doesn't say when he joined Lin Sue, just that it "wasn't long".

It seems like no one is on the same page about this, but...9 years seems like a rather long amount of time to be referred to as "it wasn't long," but I digress...when Mark Curtis said goodbye to Lin Sue tonite just now during the 10p, he said he's been lucky enough to sit next to her for almost 30 years.

And, just think, Brian Williams was suspended for changing his story...

Saw a photo posted by one of the off air crew from KPNX morning show and it stated that Faye Fredericks was moving to the evening shows. I don't know if this is a permanent move or something to shake things up at 200 EVB.

Interesting that the post has disappeared! Supposedly, Mark Curtis tweeted that Vanessa Ruiz from LA was interviewing at KPNX, but perhaps she was interviewing for the am anchor position being vacated by Fay???

Fay posted on Mark Curtis 'twitter stating, "Hope you'll catch me in the evenings with (Mark Curtis) starting Monday @ 5 & 6 PM".

Upon further review, the 12 News Twitter posted that Fay will be on the 5, 6, and 10 shows. Doug will be on at noon and 4PM EVB. Not sure about Vanessa Ruiz.

Thanks, 2son, for the twitter research! Don't know either about Vanessa Ruiz unless she is being brought in to co-host EVB Live with Doug. As a side note, I couldn't find Vanessa on the LA station website -- so she may be "between jobs" and willing to take the EVB Live hosting duties cheaply.

I believe she is still at KNBC as she was still reporting for the station on Friday, but I did not see here in the bio section of their webpage.

Who knows? Maybe Vanessa didn't interview strongly and they just decided to go with Faye. I doubt that the EVB Live position would be that attractive for someone in LA (unless they were from AZ or wanted to be in Phoenix).
