Before the Carolina preachers share their identical vision of the world as we already get from Christa, Salem, EMF, and those prolific folks out of Twin Falls Idaho, I've been enjoying getting a pretty steady signal in the car on 91.7 from KSVR in Mt Vernon, where I live near the King-Snohomish County line. They carry some of the public radio fare you don't tend to get from the larger NPR-type stations, mixed in with a mixed bag of volunteer hosted music shows. And half of the time (mornings and part of weekends) they air the Spanish-language public radio network Radio Bilingue, based in Fresno. Strange formula to try to cover a lot of different interests, and probably resulting a small slice of any. But after a few samples, it sure would be nice to be able to hear Radio Bilingue on the radio dial in the Seattle area. Their noncommercial approach means you'll hear what I find as a more culturally interesting variety of music from Mexico, instead of the banda and super-hyped tempo of the two or three other Spanish-language stations we get in the metro area. A mandate to serve your public's interest, instead of just sell, sell, sell, really does result in a whole different sound! Radio-Bilingue would have been a great alternative to Bible Broadcasting Network. But if it's all about money, I guess you won't find much for buying a full power station in the immigrant community, nor with the agencies that serves it.
