KXOT sold

Ahh...The future of non-com radio. Endless religious music and blabber everywhere.

Even commercial radio in some markets...Cumulus spun off a 2000 ft Class C rimshot NE of Houston to Air1.....the station originally cost Cumeless over $40mill in buying the license ($32 mil) and then tower plus equipment...and several formats later, they gave up and sold it all for only $5mill.....great ROI there huh??

Yeah, WCCC's owners sold out to "K-Love" last year.

Before the Carolina preachers share their identical vision of the world as we already get from Christa, Salem, EMF, and those prolific folks out of Twin Falls Idaho, I've been enjoying getting a pretty steady signal in the car on 91.7 from KSVR in Mt Vernon, where I live near the King-Snohomish County line. They carry some of the public radio fare you don't tend to get from the larger NPR-type stations, mixed in with a mixed bag of volunteer hosted music shows. And half of the time (mornings and part of weekends) they air the Spanish-language public radio network Radio Bilingue, based in Fresno. Strange formula to try to cover a lot of different interests, and probably resulting a small slice of any. But after a few samples, it sure would be nice to be able to hear Radio Bilingue on the radio dial in the Seattle area. Their noncommercial approach means you'll hear what I find as a more culturally interesting variety of music from Mexico, instead of the banda and super-hyped tempo of the two or three other Spanish-language stations we get in the metro area. A mandate to serve your public's interest, instead of just sell, sell, sell, really does result in a whole different sound! Radio-Bilingue would have been a great alternative to Bible Broadcasting Network. But if it's all about money, I guess you won't find much for buying a full power station in the immigrant community, nor with the agencies that serves it.

The new call letters for KXOT will be KYFQ

KSVR came in quite well from Everett down through Edmonds and even in Bothell, when KXOT was off the air post KUOW2, pre-TVW simulcast. For 170 watts they get out well...and the SS programming I agree is a little more interesting than KDDS' La Gran D Mexicana or KLSY's religious shows. Go past Skagit County and 91.7 becomes KZAZ Bellingham (NWPR, parallel to KVTI).
I remember getting KALW San Francisco via sporadic-E when KXOT was off the air. But 2012 was a HORRIBLE year for sporadic-E DX.

KSVR is a good little station. I listened to them a lot when I was living in Mount Vernon.

I was in Seattle on Wednesday, and 91.7 KYFQ is still not on the air. Maybe waiting until fall? I also did not note the CSN in Fall City on 91.9 - instead, I was hearing a scratchy in and out KPTZ Port Townsend in the First Hill neighborhood in Seattle.
Just like with Family Radio, BBN will have very few listeners in this market. Just like K-LOVE, it's a large nonprofit just trying to gobble up dozens of stations. And as for 104.5, the only local mention I hear on KLSW at all is the TOH ID "You're listening to the Northwest's Positive Encouraging K-LOVE. 104.5 FM, KLSW Covington Seattle Tacoma". Yes, KLSW is still using KMCQ's old C-O-L. But everything else is off the bird except for the TOH ID.

That's pretty typical of EMF stations. I wonder why Entercom or CBS didn't make a bid for 104.5. I could have told you about KYFQ. I also noticed recently that KARR is off, heard via this board it was back on in late May, but couldn't get it then. Nothing on 1460 here during the day.
