Am 1470

The sale to Punjabi Media Group went through sometime around the end of August, so they probably just got the program distribution together. 1450 in Yuba City was purchased by the same group, so that likely flipped as well. I find it interesting that both KIID and KEBR (the Family Radio station on 1210) were sold to groups who generally program to immigrants from India. Is there really that great of a market in Sacramento? 1550 in the Bay Area is doing OK, but that's the Bay Area. I have no inside knowledge whatsoever, but it just seems to me that both groups decided to move into Sacramento at about the same time and neither one was counting on the competition.

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Sounds like the switched formats, I don't hear Radio Disney :(

Sad day, When did it flip?

It was a matter of time.

I used to rant and rave about how good they sounded in AM HD. Oh well, I really have a hard time believing parents had that pumping on their car radios (on AM) for the kids. Too many other options now a days.

From what I've observed, the Indian/Middle Eastern populations seemed to have grown over the past 15 years or so. Intel has a large campus in Folsom and recruits many employees directly from India. I've seen it locally with the number of Indian markets popping up here and there.

I also have heard of a significant Sikh population in the Yuba City/MV area, believe it or not.

With that said, it is no surprise that a local AM station would begin featuring Punjabi programming to serve this growing population.

Anybody know what Punjabi paid for 1470? Disney was asking something like $1.5 million for it, which I thought was ridiculous...1470 has always had a very poor signal to the East (where Sacramento has grown over the past 40 years) at night. It just doesn't cover the whole market at night.. And no real estate was included in the deal..

Big D, 1470 doesn't even get as far East as Folsom at night...so they'd only really be serving that area during the daytime...If that's who they'd be attempting to serve, it might as well be a daytimer because of the signal limitations at night. Even 1240 had a better signal toward Folsom when I last checked (about 10 years ago)..
