KJR embarrassess themselves over Derrick Coleman incident

That was embarrassing today, Puck, Furness, and The Softball were all tripping over themselves to try to stick up for Coleman. Furness even went so far as to question whether or not the guy who got hit by Coleman was at fault for the accident and both he and Puck were all "why is the Bellevue PD holding a press conference?"

Uh, because Coleman is a celebrity and he seriously injured the other guy.

Talk about lack of credibility, not that KJR has ever had much of that.

Yet you found it compelling enough to not only listen to the entire exchange, but to go out of your way and post on the internet to talk about it.

And that is a how a station with no promotional money survives.

Well that's pretty SOP for KIRO and KJR. Both stations are hyper-optomistic about anything Seahawks with very little criticism of the team. Not only do they not want to kill the golden goose in an otherwise poor sports scene, but the Seahawks give almost unprecidented access to both players and coaches. Why would the stations be critical of the 'Hawks and lose all those interviews?

I heard some critical thoughts about the Seahawks on KJR 950 earlier this week, the two hosts wondering why we have such a hard time at pass protection, is it lack of confidence in the passing game, etc. etc. I was sort of surprised. Wasn't so rah-rah-rah as I expected. Refreshing.

Because they might possibly have personal integrity?

And you felt the need to try and make a supportive post towards KJR, a station that, believe, me, deserves no support at all.

Don't get me wrong, I've sent numerous emails, letters, and Facebook posts under different names to Beacon Plumbing, Duke's Chowder House, and Sleep Country/Sleep Train making it clear that I will never shop/dine with them as long as they advertise on KJR and KIRO.

------------

Kelly A, it is clear to me that you are probably a long-time veteran of the radio industry who has lost the ability to see the forest for the trees. You probably think the ridiculous amount of advertising/live reads on today's radio are perfectly acceptable rather than a frightening example of Giant Corporations encroaching even more on our lives than necessary.

All you clearly care about is "popping a rating" rather than "providing good, quality radio."

Instead of praising KJR for making fools of themselves, you should be discussing how to get their current management fired and replaced with people willing to make wholesale changes to the station including firing almost all current on-air talent and less live and local.

How many names do you post under in this forum, LordAntler? At least Kelly and everyone else knows where to shop and dine when in town, to avoid you.

Good, quality radio, to whom, you? There is a reason it's called broadcasting. Popular and profitable radio stations are that way because they appeal to a broad audience. Don't like KJR or KIRO? Guess what, there are <80 more stations within your listening range you can tune to, and literally hundreds of thousands streaming.

You're entitled to your opinion but as with any discussion board, you'd better have your big boy pants on and be prepared to receive beliefs or opinions contrary to your own, especially from professionals who understand how radio or any form of broadcasting works. Clearly, you have no clue.

shhzzz. whats going on here. Antler I gotta take issue with you in a couple of areas. While I appreciate that you have an opinion and am actually glad that you are passionate about your radio listening, this forum is designed for adult conversations. What I expected to see was an example of how a couple of announcers mis read or played a situation. What I think I see here is a full blown rant of KJR, and KUOW on your other post. If you think you can do better radio, apply for a job as a program direction, sales manager or general manager or owner. And these days there are other ways to get there, start a pod cast, blog site or other avenue of content creation anyone with good creativity has the opportunity to develop a following and build a listener or fan base. Back in my day you had to go to work at small town radio market and work your way up. i'd love to see some of what you create, I'm always looking for creative folks who can write compelling content.
As far the advertising piece, while there are big corporations, a big percentage of Seattle radio is funded by local businesses and people. Please be assured that local ad agencies like mine are very aware of clutter issues on radio like too many live reads, too many spots in a break, etc. We also do respond to logical well crafted local criticism, if you want to get the attention of a local advertiser to not advertise on a particular station be sure that you have a compelling reason. The fact that you disagree with what a host says is not compelling. Doing under a bunch of different names is not being honest and will not gain your credibility and traction with advertisers, as unfortunately you become a 'nut job' at that point.

LordAntler is a new handle for someone who used to post here as Oscar Madison, but was run off when he accused TV reporters concerned about their safety of (paraphrasing) "being weak". He appears to be nothing more than a discussion board Troll, just trying to stir some s*it.

Just wanted to thank CarAgencyGuy for his kind and insightful response... Often we hobbyists on here don't hear things from the perspective of the advertisers on radio.

I listen to a decent amount of local radio. A lot of the spots I hear appear to be from local businesses (like Beacon Plumbing, for example -- which was mentioned earlier in this thread) -- businesses that would be considered a "small business" by the Federal Government.

Yes, some of them like Beacon have a large media presence. But I believe they have less than 100 employees (could be wrong, though, they may have expanded greatly during the recovery). I don't believe they are a "giant corporation".

A lot of other businesses I hear advertising on KJR, KIRO-FM for example, appear to be local and probably would be considered small businesses. And by advertising on stations like KJR they are supporting local radio.

In any case....ANOTHER Seahawks dumb-move accident to talk about as of Tuesday (10/20). I would expect this would also be topic of discussion on a SPORTS station, right? Not sure why we were surprised it came up in the other incident either....?
