"New York's 95-5" downplaying the PLJ part?

yeah. unless they where planning on a re branding (and at this point, they might as well, unless they want to remind people of how great they where in the past, and no longer are...their music selection has totally changed from what it was) why wouldn't they use the call letters?

The only big name DJ they have left from the golden era is race taylor. todds reputation (if you know to look it up online) is all but trashed and tarnished. Ralphie doesn't count, he's still too new, and syndicated I think. Looking at PLJ's website, never heard of anyone else they have listed, so they are all expendable. well, maybe minus joey kramer. I think he's been around more than 10 years there.

just wipe the slate clean, keep race, make him the new morning guy to train the newbies and start fresh. make it a modern hits station. nothing older than 2005. play from all different genres, including country. sometimes it's nice to keep up on the new music, so long as it's good.

I think they parked the WPLJ calls at a small station in Pennsylvania and reverted to WPLJ at 95.5.

Wasn't a "parking" as ABC did not own the station that took the WPLJ calls ... WKRZ in Wilkes-Barre, which grabbed them about a month after they left NYC. The new owners changed it again (to WYOM) and ABC snapped the WPLJ calls back to the Big Apple the same day.

Since both were reported in the same batch of call letter changes in Broadcasting (January 16, 1989, if you want to go look it up at David's site) I wouldn't rule out ABC's paying the new owners to give up the WPLJ calls, though.

WPLJ was one of the lowest billing English language FM stations in NYC last year. Reportedly, their ad revenue for 2014 was only ~$12 million. That is horrendous for a legacy brand on a full market signal. Many FM stations in Philadelphia and Boston bill more than that.

I rarely listen to PLJ but last week I happened to be flipping around the dial and noticed PLJ playing "No Diggity". My how times have changed. Years ago they would never have come close to touching a song like that.

maybe that's why they got rid of all the old people. so they could play the newer stuff?

years ago before all the major mergers, companies would have been happy making 12 million a year.

was listening to the morning show yesterday. when todd is out I tune in a little more. boy, someone better reign in jayde. accusing someone of stealing something from a DJ's house and then calling them live on air to accuse them is grounds for a lawsuit ;o).

Dollars to doughnuts, it's a bit. 30+ years ago when I was at a station in Florida the morning show duo competition [who I was friends with] was calling his partner who had "overslept" and razzing him to get into work. This happened at least twice a week for about a month. Little did everyone know he was just off in another room at the station and his partner was just talking to him there. 20-30 minutes later he was "in studio", pretending like he was still sleepy from waking up. They dropped the bit after someone put 2 + 2 together and mentioned that he had said in the past that he lived about 45 minutes away from the station....yet he was able to get their in 20-30 minutes after the phone call and irregardless that in ANY business someone being late that often would have been disciplined or fired by the third time it had happened. Busted!

I dunno.. that jayde lady is so goofy, I don't see her putting that much effort into planning ANYTHING. Todd, yes. Jayde, not so much.
