They preempted that for this?

Two posts from TVNewsTalk. From nbc4ne:

WSVN in Miami on the weekends, consistently pre-empts the secondary sports event, i.e. Auto Racing, and frequently bumps it to midnight. They also do this EVEN IF they've opted to air the late NFL game, and in place is BooooRing Infomercials. Even worse, IMO, Miami wants this happening way more frequently then never. I, on the other hand, would like to see some Other station in Miami be the Fox affiliate. I should also mention that if the secondary sports event aired in the late fringe on Weekends, News is on. Any other Fox affiliates do this?

And from WSVNFan:

This is especially true. Let me discuss this further. Recently, FOX aired a 2015 US Open special on Jordan Spieth. But instead of airing it at 4:00pm, WSVN 7 aired it at 12:00 Midnight in favor of local news at 4:00 and 4:30pm.

The same can be said for specials before or after an NFL game, in which WSVN will also preempt until Midnight or later for it. Another great example... Today at either 3:00pm before the late NFL Game or at 4:30 or 5:00pm after the early NFL game, FOX will air a FOX College Football: Playoff Preview, an hour-long special. But instead of airing it on those times, WSVN 7 is airing it at 12:00 Midnight after Sports Xtra.

This is nothing new as WSVN 7 has constantly pre-empted networks programs since its NBC days.

More subchannel preemptions. From FaT Air on the AVS Forum:

What do you all think of BEK Prime pre-empting COZI on KRDK?
I myself, and others I've talked to, think it's DUMB.
BEK247 is all replays by the looks of it. So put the live coverage there. They've got plenty of idle time, showing their powerpoint presentation on BEK247 that could be 'filled' with a replay. Recordings can 'moved' easily.

This may have been mentioned earlier, but WLMT CW 30 in Memphis used to pre-empt 7 to 9 PM weeknights on 30.2, which is Me TV the rest of the day, for My Network TV. They're Me TV full time now. But the OTA channel info still shows MNTV's listings for those times.

WYJJ-LD 27.1 in Jackson, TN, which is Antenna TV the rest of the day is carrying MNTV from 7 to 9 PM weeknights now.

In the early 2000's WPTY (Now WATN) ABC 24 in Memphis used to delay Nightline and Jimmy Kimmel by 2 hours and carried WB's prime time schedule.

Not a preemption per se, but...

WRAL Airing News Instead of Colbert After Super Bowl

Instead of airing the Late Show with Stephen Colbert after the Super Bowl, Raleigh CBS affiliate WRAL is airing an hour of its own post game, to cover the home team. But the station tells TVSpy it has nothing to do with the fact that WRAL won’t be a CBS affiliate in a few weeks.

In an effort to hang on to Carolina Panther fans, the Capitol Broadcasting-owned station is pushing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to after its late local news, which is expanding to an hour tonight.

Actually, Nightline aired "live" at 10:35, it was whatever aired at 11:05 that was delayed. Kimmel didn't debut until 2003(?).

have any Super Bowls ever been pre-empted? what big sports events have been pre-empted besides the Miracle on Ice in Memphis for a church service and maybe the Heidi Bowl?

You may be right on that. but I definitely remember Kimmel being shuffled off to at least 1:05 AM, possibly even 2:05, until The WB was moved to WLMT 30, and there may have still even been syndicated reruns that 24 ran after Nightline for a while after that.

With the audiences the Super Bowl brings in now, WHAT STATION IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would pre-empt the Super Bowl (Or any of the pregame hyperbole) ??

To say NOTHING of the fact the network airing it MOST DEFINATELY WOULD NOT allow it REGARDLESS of what some local station had (Unless it was MAJOR breaking news like a crash of a passenger jetliner or something like that)

Cheers & 73 :)

March Madness Pre-Emptions

Once the actual Tournament starts next week, it's near wall to wall B-Ball at least in the early rounds on CBS, but I noticed this week that at least one OTA station, WDCA-TV in Washington, DC is gutting their daytime schedule, and bumping the MYNet shows to late night Wed-Fri this week to carry the entire ACC Tournament. (I'm guessing blackout programming on the affected ESPN channels in the DC area during the games) Any other broadcast stations carrying all or part of a conference tourney this week?

WRAL in Raleigh/Durham is carrying the ACC tournament (has it traditionally have for years), bumping its daytime schedule to its Heroes & Icons channel, and primetime gets shuffled to overnights on 5.1.

Meanwhile in Louisville, WAVE is doing something a little different--the first day of the ACC tournament will be on its Bounce subchannel, while the main channel gets the second day of coverage. I check their schedule for Thursday, and it looks like WAVE won't reschedule any of its pre-empted shows, network or syndicated.

Atlanta has WATL airing the ACC games, which of this Saturday will bump the second airing of Monopoly Millionaires Club. For the CBS games, WGCL will fill the Let's Make a Deal spot at 10 AM with an early edition of their noon news and their locally produced Atlanta Plugged In.

ABC affiliates in Madison, La Crosse/Eau Claire and Wausau WI are dumping ABC programming the next two weekends -- not for college hoops, but for the Wisconsin High School basketball tournaments. Girls is 3/10-3/12, Boys 3/17-3/19.

Which they have done for about 20 years now....its not new

It would be like saying WDIO (ABC) in Duluth pre-empted programming last Wednesday-Saturday for the boys hockey tourney. They've done it for 16 years now (was on KBJR NBC6 previously)

WBTV is doing something similar. I think the early games are advertised as being on the My Network station. I haven't actually looked to see what they are doing, but my usual shows were not in the TiVo listings. I am fortunate to have two CBS affiliates on my cable system and the other one was not airing the games, though they used to. WRAL, WFMY and WBTV, all CBS affiliates, used to air all the ACC Tournament games. You couldn't even go out of the market for CBS where I live. Well, actually you could. I did pick up WBTW if I was lucky. No more of that in the digital era, and it's high-VHF too.

I think this happened last yr Austin NBC station was showing the NLH playoff game and they cut the last 10 to 15 min of it off and showed some crap they later apologized

In Knoxville, WBIR is preempting Chelsea-Manchester City and the first two hours of an NHL playoff game for the Smoky Mountain Air Show.

http://tvschedule.zap2it.com/tvlist...fromTimeInMillis=1460822400000&aid=tvschedule

I'd imagine Knoxville is a market in which those pre-emptions will barely be protested. Is the air show an annual event there, and does WBIR regularly pre-empt for it?

KGW (NBC) Portland OR is airing the local broadcast of the Trail Blazers-Clippers first round playoff series. Here's what's being preempted there:
4/17: Little Big Shots (repeat), Little Big Shots (New), Crowded x2 (New)
4/20: Heartbeat (New), Law & Order: SVU (repeat)
4/23: NHL Playoff
4/25: Game 4 is scheduled, but Zap2it still has The Voice (New); couldn't find the game on any other channel
