Wkvl 850 am

It's will be one year silent on 12-15-15, anyone heard if they might apply for an STA extension or will they just let it go?

Meanwhile their old format continues on WGAP 1400. Their music is great, it's just too bad they don't have the signal that 850 did.

Maybe if the transmitter was moved southeast of Knoxville. 850 might be able to utilize a lower-power, non-directional signal.

Since I'm sorta new, why did they go silent a year to begin with?

It was 50kw daytime only three tower directional if IIRC. The transmitter site was on leased land and the land owner wanted the ground for something else. It sounds like new land, towers, and ground systems would have been prohibitively expensive.
