Warm's PD chair vacant again?

ALL ACCESS has a newly posted "PD wanted" ad from KRWM. Did Carol Handley get the boot again? Would any good PD want to enter the Factoria job carousel?

Discuss.

KRWM was once a market leader, was always near the top ratings wise, and had MONSTER numbers at Christmas time. Now it seems they are a former shell of what they once were. How come they can't seem to keep a PD, a morning show, pm drive, etc. Seems like with every change they keep getting worse ratings. Anyone stepping into a job there better not get too comfortable. How long can Hubbard HQ keep allowing this slide into the dumper? There is at least one common denominator at work there and that would be the local mgt team. How many more bodies have to be thrown under the bus until real changes at can be made to turn them around?

On the positive side, some aspects of warm have remained in-tact. Shellie Hart has been consistent with the station since 2012. AJ (although moved from KLCK) has also been consistent.

Yeah I don't know so much about that Ford. A 2.5 year run with Shellie isn't what I would call consistent and honestly the only thing consistent is the dip in numbers. Same can be said of AJ - YoY they are not looking good. When you really step back and look at when Laura was PD, Tom, Daryl and Will were there they had reached the high water mark. When they cleaned house the first time things were decent. Shellie did have some good numbers and Matt Case did solid in afternoons. Mark Christopher tried but couldn't get those numbers Tom once had. But now when you dive deeper - it's not good. The are not what they once were and obviously not acceptable. Hence the change again. I would define consistency YoY and maybe after 3-5 years. Right now, Movin is the only property that has shown that. Everyone else not so much. Even this years Christmas numbers so far....way down. Sure some will say they are "winning" but really when it comes to the Holiday book and you are the only station in town so to speak you should dominate and that friends is not what is going on. Seems someone has taken a chunk out of their candy cane this year. KLCK and KRWM are facing a hard road ahead. Best of luck!

Ok, cue the guy who actually has access to the numbers to clear things up. People, if you’re going to make gross generalizations like “When you really step back and look at when Laura was PD, Tom, Daryl and Will were there they had reached the high water mark….But now when you dive deeper - it's not good…” you should maybe have some facts to back that up. Warm was a solid performer when Laura Dane inherited the station from Tony Coles/Gary Nolan, and then she hit the lottery 3 years later when PPM launched. Since then, Warm has had the same struggles that nearly every major market AC station has had. Look I’m not a fan of the format, but I can understand why and when they made the moves they did.

First, KRWM was already struggling when they let go of Laura and the airstaff in 2012. And if you look at Laura’s last 3 books, Jun/Jul/Aug ‘12 versus Carol Hanley’s Jun/Jul/Aug ‘15 books, you can see significant growth in certain cells. In wkdy prime, KRWM is up 11% W35-54, flat W25-54, but maybe most importantly they’re up 23% W18-34 and 60% W18-49. During Laura’s last 3 books Jun/Jul/Aug ‘12, KRWM’s median age was 51. In Jun/Jul/Aug ‘15 KRWM’s median age was 47. Carol attracted a younger audience which was the biggest struggle for KRWM over the last decade. You may say a 4 year swing in median age isn’t much, but keep in mind, KRWM got younger while the market got older. In the same 2012 books, the market median age was 44, now it’s 48. So in reality KRWM decreased its median age by 8 years over 3 years’ time…not bad.

Oh and the comment “Even this years Christmas numbers so far....way down” is BS. Why post things that you are just guessing on? December’s book which came out Tuesday, had 2 weeks of Christmas music in it. So comparing Dec ’14 to Dec ’15 KRWM did the following M-F 6a-7p share rank:

W18-34 – #9 to #3 (53% share increase)
W18-49 – #7 to #2 (55% share increase)
W25-54 - #6 to #2 (42% share increase)
W35-64 - #1 to #2 (still increased share by 27%)
A18-34 – #6 to #6 (13% share increase)
A18-49 -#7 to #3 (23% share increase)
A25-54 - #8 to #3 (21% share increase)
A35-64 - #2 to #3 (5% share increase)

So first, Rob, I’m curious how you knew the Christmas numbers were "way down" when you posted your comment on 12/21, since the December book didn’t come out until the next day. Do you have access to the weeklies? Or Mscore? Or are you just pretending to know what you’re talking about? Merry DXmas, Kokomo, Robin and Maynard and I’m out.

If KRWM's numbers took a hit, it was last December, when they only had a 6.2 as opposed to the year before's 7.5. This year they have a slight increase over last year, 6.2 to 6.5, but KQMV is at the highest I've ever see them, overtaking KRWM by a significant margin.

We've been over this a million times. Alright, let's try something new. I want everyone to repeat after me....

"6+ numbers are meaningless....I will no longer post comments about stations who are 'killing it', 'tanking', 'way up' or 'way down' while sourcing these top line numbers. When I do this, I am no better than those old white people who portray themselves as politically educated based off of knowledge garnered from Fox and Friends."

Ok, I think we're getting somewhere. One day at a time. Well done.

Hey, the 6+ numbers in this case back up what you posted above. It looks like, according to what you posted above, that KRWM had increases across the board, so it's only reasonable to assume that they would increase 6+ as well. Do you have the numbers from 2013 to back up or deny my claim that their numbers declined from 2013 to 2014?

The context, delivery, the facts and the funny stuff at the end, well said.

Bob, Bob, Bob. Your "claim" is invalid because it's based on meaningless data. YOU need to prove your "claim" is valid - not the other way around.

Try learning from what others post instead of acting like a radio KIA and you'll be better off.

Show me the data for 2013 to 2014 and we'll see who's really right. It's clear from what was posted on this board that KRWM had increases across the board from December of 2014 to December of 2015, which includes 6+, 6.2 to 6.5. In 2013 however, they had a 7.5 share, but I don't have the demo numbers to show where the decrease was. Show me those and we can really start discussing.

Gotta love all those 6 year olds with PPMs strapped to their little arms...

It's all hocus pocus...

That's not how it works. You're the one making the assertions - YOU need to supply the data to back them up. 6+ data is invalid. Prove your point with correct info and we can really start discussing.

Question is, WHY do they factor so low of an age bracket?

Especially if the ends are meaningless?

My belief (and I was on the very early Philadelphia PPM test committees of broadcasters and advertisers when the PPM was a joint Nielsen and Arbitron effort) is that the idea was to combine, using the PPM, radio and TV measurements. That required the pre-teens.

Nielsen dropped out, something that I felt had the politics of who would be the head of the beast attached. But Arbitron smelled revenue from Radio Disney and kept the 6+.

Now, with Nielsen Audio having little or no institutional memory of its past, I don't think they know why they did it or why they should not keep it.
