Having once worked at the ol' 1190 back in its KRDS CCM-format days lo, those many years ago, I would hate to see the old gal go dark. So here's my plan for newly-minted Talk 1990, KNTV "The Native." We'll format this so only people who are Arizona natives will understand it.
6-10 AM - "Morning Dew" with Dewey Hopper. Mind-bending dicsussions of the "Dewey Point" and weather for Phoenix and the Valley, including Higley and Curry's Corner, but NOT Elfrida or Many Farms...
10 AM - 2 PM - "Up Close with Close" - Bill Close hosts four hours but speaks so slowly you only get two hours worth of conversation. Via ISDN from his manse in Payson. Heavy emphasis on women's issues such as co-anchor's bra sizes and comfortable kitchen flooring for those bare feet.
2-6 PM - "A Guy Named Bruce" - In keeping with Valley tradition that every radio station must have someone named Bruce on staff, former Gov. Bruce Babbitt will regale us with afternoons filled with stammering and discussions of the Colorado River Water Compact. Wife Hattie ("Hattie B.") will do traffic on-scene from light rail trains.
6 - 10PM - "Bruce After Dark" - Hey, if one Bruce is gold, having TWO Bruces is platinum. Bruce Kelley makes his long-awaited return to Valley airwaves. Every night Bruce will call Steve Goddard at home to ask him if his refrigerator is running.
Overnights: "Skywave Theatre" - Every night, "The Native" will plug in the web stream of KFI Los Angeles and broadcast it "as is" on our station so radio geeks can pretend they're listening to exotic radio from our neighbors to the west.
Weekends: 48 hours of nothing but old tapes of 1970s L.A. Dodger games as heard on KTAR. This will be our ratings juggernaut.
I'm available for PD duties immediately and will only ask for the same salary Jonathon Brandmeier received from the original KZZP (adjusted for inflation.)
