Television viewers in Watertown and surrounding areas will soon have more stations to choose from.
It’s a development especially beneficial to cord-cutters — those who have severed the ties to cable providers.
Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. and Watertown-based WWTI, the local ABC and CW affiliates, on Thursday, Sept. 1, will begin broadcasting two channels over the air. LAFF, the nation’s “first over-the-air broadcast devoted to comedy,” will be on channel 50.3 and the Escape network will be broadcast on channel 50.4.
Escape, targeted to female audiences, features “movies and series that are daring, sexy and anchored in stories of crime and mystery.”
Also on Sept. 1, United Communications Corp., the parent company of WWNY 7 News and WNYF Your North Country Fox, will begin broadcasting MeTV at the over-the-air frequency of 28.2. It will also be seen on Time Warner Cable on channel 1250. MeTV features “iconic and classic” family-friendly television shows.
All 3 are actually on the air right now according to a viewer in the area.
