Watertown, NY gains MeTV, Laff and Escape

Television viewers in Watertown and surrounding areas will soon have more stations to choose from.

It’s a development especially beneficial to cord-cutters — those who have severed the ties to cable providers.

Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. and Watertown-based WWTI, the local ABC and CW affiliates, on Thursday, Sept. 1, will begin broadcasting two channels over the air. LAFF, the nation’s “first over-the-air broadcast devoted to comedy,” will be on channel 50.3 and the Escape network will be broadcast on channel 50.4.

Escape, targeted to female audiences, features “movies and series that are daring, sexy and anchored in stories of crime and mystery.”

Also on Sept. 1, United Communications Corp., the parent company of WWNY 7 News and WNYF Your North Country Fox, will begin broadcasting MeTV at the over-the-air frequency of 28.2. It will also be seen on Time Warner Cable on channel 1250. MeTV features “iconic and classic” family-friendly television shows.

All 3 are actually on the air right now according to a viewer in the area.

With Nexstar, that's part of a trend nationwide; odds are that it's a group pickup of those diginets.

Over in Erie, PA WJET-TV added Laff & Escape while co-owned WFXP picked up Grit and Bounce TV. WICU added MeTV.

Here in Buffalo, WIVB & WNLO are set to become part of Nexstar soon...and none too soon; WIVB has NO diginets while WNLO has Bounce. And all of the diginets Nexstar has deals with are on other stations(Laff & Escape are on WKBW, while Grit is on WUTV).

correct. Thats the only reason they were added. Katz and Nexstar signed a huge agreement months ago.

Except when Nexstar becomes WIVB and WNLO's owner, Bounce will be the only one of the 4 diginets that they signed deals with to actually be on one of their stations. (WETM in Elmira added Laff and Escape; they're also owned by Nexstar.) WKBW's owner, Scripps, likewise, did a group agreement with Laff.
