95.7 the ride is now also broadcasting on 94.7

I noticed this today while scanning the fm dial near uptown charlotte. Is 94.7 FM being used for simulcasting or is it an issue with the transmitter?

If I had to guess, it's probably for areas where 95.7 gets interference from WKML. I say that because there is supposedly another translator for it on 94.5 in Indian Trail.

This is could be temporary - Don Curtis (Curtis Media Group) owns both of these translators and Mr. Curtis does not own WXRC (95.7).

This is indeed temporary, but for how long, only two parties know - Don Curtis and the owner of WXRC. They both know each other, and have this agreement to let Don re-transmit ''something'' for Legal Reasons. He has to as a Translator and as such it is not an ''Illegal Transmission'' per se. Both parties are aware of this arrangement which apparently gets the FCC's blessing. So WXRC does not ''need'' the Translators, definitely does not own them, and at some point will eventually cease to xmit on 94.7 -&- 94.5.

For those keeping score, another new translator for the area - WHKY (1290, Hickory) lit up its 102.3 translator sometime yesterday.

I heard it this weekend, but unfortunately it's causing major interference to WWMY within its protected contour. I live in Blowing Rock and I can hear WHKY cutting in almost into Boone. In some spots it almost completely takes over, and WWMY pretty much goes away south of Blowing Rock now. I can't just listen to 106.1 either because WOLS interferes with it, although not as badly. I am definitely going to make WMMY/WWMY aware of it because that was the last local FM station we had without interference here.

Ironically, WMMY used to do that to WOLS when it was WNMX.

To hear the interference, you have to travel up Highway 16, North, past Lucia and towards Denver, N.C. I cannot remember whether it is before -or- after you pass Denver, N.C. but I think it is the latter. This is probably outside of the protected contour of 106.1 from Waxhaw, but annoying just the same. Especially if you are after Material en Espanol.

Steve.

Just curious...In what areas did the interference occur?

This Translator makes it very hard to hear the 102.3 Station from Pageland, S.C. It is now a constant Tug-of-War. ''Now you hear 1; now you hear the Other. Now, you hear BOTH!''.

I think it's time to invest in an Outside Directional FM Antenna so you can spin the Antenna around to hear what you actually want to hear. Or, as others have pointed out, *some* Radio Stations do stream their content via the Internet. Tune into the Internet Stream and avoid the FM Translator Madness that is occurring everywhere, if that is an option.

That's my 2¢

Steve.
