Characters guesting on other shows

In the Memorial thread for John Hillerman, one poster noted Hillerman's Higgins character from "Magnum PI" also appears on an episode of "Murder She Wrote"; they were having a crossover episode. So what other characters appear in a show unrelated to their main program? (It has to be the actual character, so if Andy Griffith appears as a kindly policemen that isn't named Andy Taylor, that doesn't count.)

This is in the old thread box somewhere out in the garage, but it's still fun; Anyway, the all time champ still has to be all the Paul Henning Beverly Hillbillies-Petticoat Junction-Green Acres crossovers. (Although I guess "Green Acres" & "Petticoat Junction" were related.)

I think that Kelsey Grammer played Frasier Crane in an episode of Wings. Also, there were some crossover shows between Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens with Ray Romano and Kevin James being on each other's show.

IIRC, Richard Belzer holds the record for number of appearances as the same character. His character - Detective John Munch - started on Homicide, Life on the Streets in the 1990s. When that show ended, Law & Order SVU decided to move Munch from Baltimore PD to NYPD. The shows had different producers, so there was obviously some cooperation there. Needless to say, Munch has appeared on the other shows in the L&O franchise. He also appeared as Munch briefly in one of the final episodes of The Wire, a cable series on HBO set in Baltimore. It was just a brief appearance in a local bar, and he only had one line...I guess Munch was taking a trip back home. I think it was so he could extend his record.

The last episode of The Felony Squad in 1969 was the first part of a crossover episode with Judd for the Defense, which didn't much longer itself.

A 1963 episode of Dr. Kildare was the first part of a crossover episode with a show called The Eleventh Hour.

Green Hornet (and Kato) appeared on Batman in 1967.

After The Jeffersons premiered, one All in the Family episode had them return.

One lame attempt at saving McLean Stevenson's dubious Hello Larry sitcom had him connecting with Conrad Bain's character on Different Strokes.

They really pushed the 'Hello Larry'/'Strokes crossovers, with a pair of two-part stories tht aited on both series, and one Thanksgiving show on 'Strokes'.

On a different site the other day, a discussion of crossovers mentioned one with 'Fantasy Island' and 'The Love Boat', in 1980, in which two guests appeared on each show. First, a half-hour 'Island', with one guest, a terminally ill girl who is cured. At the end of the episode, the family said they were going on a cruise...aboard the Pacific Princess...and they had a storyline in the 90-minute 'Love Boat' episode that followed.
A different storyline in that episode starred Loni Anderson, in the unusual role of a woman with a miserable life before the cruise, who was even MORE miserable near the end of the episode. Then, Julie McCoy mentions the 'resort on Fantasy Island', and they make arrangement for Anderson's character to be picked up from the ship by a motor boat that takes her to the island, where, in the second 'Fantasy Island' episode, Roarke solves her problem, along with whatever else was going on that week.
The 'Love Boat' also appeared in an episode of 'Charlie's Angels', where the ladies went undercover, while pursuing a jewel thief who had boarded the ship to get away from them.

I remember this, Believe it or not a letter appeared in our paper about this show. Written by an old woman she liked it but she went on to say that she may have to call the police because children under 18 are not allowed in a radio studio it's the law. Law ??

Back in the 50s Lucille Ball appeared on several shows as Lucy Ricardo including Make Room For Daddy, Private Secretary and KO Kitty. Donna Reed was in one Dennis The Menace with Jay North and Joe Kearns,

My favorite was George Reeves appearing as Superman in an episode of I Love Lucy.

There was a sitcom on Nickelodeon in the 90s called "Hi Honey I'm Home" where every week an ex sitcom star appeared as his or her character. The ones I remember were June Cleaver, Gomer Pyle, Alice Kramden & Trixie Norton, Grandpa Munster, Georgette Baxter and Sally Rogers.

It's been a few years since I've seen this, but I think some of the Cheers cast members appeared as their characters in an episode of St. Elsewhere. Drs Craig and Westphall had dinner or drinks in the Cheers bar or something like that.

Bronx

I also recall that several original Dynasty characters guested on The Colbys early in the run of that 1985-87 Dynasty spinoff, John Forsythe's Blake Carrington being one of them.

Florence Stanley who played Judge Wilbur on My Two Dads also played same character on Night Court

per wiki I guess Richard Moll did the same thing
"In turn, Richard Moll guest starred as his Night Court character Bull Shannon in the "Playing with Fire" episode of My Two Dads, protecting Judge Wilbur from a recently released criminal that she had sent to prison years before."

Are you sure about the Donna Reed crossover? Dennis the Menace was on CBS, but The Donna Reed Show was on ABC. Though Make Room for Daddy moved from ABC to CBS (IIRC), I'd bet my life that the crossover with Lucy was not until it was on CBS.

Yes NicK@Nite and TV Land both aired it. It's been years since I had seen it but I can recall Donna Reed was painting or doing something in her home and Dennis shows up creating a mess. Dennis then leaves and Donna calls up Mr. Wilson I believe.

All of the Lucy crossovers were on CBS except one. The Bob Hope special that was on NBC. In that show not only showed Lucy but Ricky, Fred and Ethel on it as well. I think that was payback for Bob Hope being a guest on I Love Lucy.

The cast of the Family Guy also made an appearance on the Simpsons as well when Peter, Lois, Meg, Stewie and Chris and oh yeah Brian the dog went to Springfield. Half the show was pretty much Peter and Homer getting into a fight with each other.

The death of David Cassidy had me thinking, Didn't the kids from the Partridge Family ever made an appearance on the Brady Bunch ?? Reason I ask is that there was a photo with the kids from both shows that exist and another one the kids from Brady Bunch taken with the Jackson Five too.

Bob Hope's specials, like the Tonight Show, and other late night talk shows, were exceptions to the rule - but they weren't scripted. It would have been hard for Johnny Carson, for example, to only have guests with NBC shows. Though I do remember than when he'd have guests with CBS or ABC shows, they would always plug the show with the day and time, and say it was "on another network." Nobody bothers to do that anymore - everybody cross-promotes everybody else. Bob Hope would have been hindered too, if he could only pick his guests from NBC. And after all, Lucy was being herself on the Hope show, not Lucy Ricardo, or Lucy Carmichael, I assume.

There were times that jokes were made about having to say that someone's show was on another network. Once on Match Game Gene Rayburn mentioned Richard Dawson hosting Family Feud on another network but they couldn't mention it, and Dawson said "It's as easy to remember as ABC." There was also a time that Gallagher (Mr. Sledge-O-Matic) was on Letterman (I think) wearing a t-shirt for Showtime, who carried his specials at the time, and it was blanked out.

Kelsey Grammer did appear on Wings as Dr. Fraiser Crane along with Bebe Neuarth as Lilith.(And FWIW it's a really funny episode) Also Norm and Cliff appeared in a more limited role where they went fishing on the Island in Wings.
