Overheard on 102.9 FM

Driving home from work yesterday, scanning the dial, per usual. I landed on 102.9 and heard the deejay explain he was out of here on Tuesday, December 5, and change was coming, and no one knows what's going to happen. I guess we'll see on Wednesday.

Wonder if they will go to an all-Christmas format before changing to something else?

A return to a country format? Maybe '102.9 the Bull,' since the KNBQ calls were snatched up by K-LOVE 98.5. But just speculation.

About how often are they running promos? I've yet to hear anything, and there's yet to be anything mentioned on SM.

I've been listening off and on and haven't heard any announcements either. But then again, alternative isn't my kind of music, so maybe I'm not listening long enough.

The promo I heard was going into the 45 break, 1:45 yesterday to be specific. I would guess they're being run every hour on the 45s.

Close, but not quite. One ohhh two point nein, was originally a Centrailia station as KELA-FM, and later as KMNT, before becoming KNBQ.

"Country Mountain FM 103 KMNT" was an automated country station that I remember hearing via a fuzzy signal on 102.9 MHz in Lynnwood in the '80s. It ran 6am to Midnight daily until the early '90s. 9am Radio Swap Meet, lots of local Centralia/Chehalis stuff, including high school games. Simulcasted KELA's local news reports. Traditional small town radio.

They must have tropped that branding by the mid-'90s, as the first branding I remember on that station was K103FM. Interestingly, though I didn't know it at the time, there were three stations using that brand at that time, KKCW Portland AC, KMNT, and KCDA in Spokane which was also doing country. Getting back to the present, I find it odd that they're promoting the station going away as of today, but everything seems to be business as usual at both 102.9 and 96.5.

Keep in mind that iHeartMedia will not begin operating the stations they're acquiring from Entercom until they place 102.9 and 104.9 in the trust.

Just heard it. Monday at Noon.

That's probably when KFNY is being moved into the trust...probably the same for KTDD.

As to who would buy KFNY, Bustos might be a candidate. I'm sure they would like to put whatever format they're running (can't hear it where I live) on 1210 kHz on an FM frequency.

As to KTDD, I'd be nice to see the Clay Huntington Foundation acquire the signal and have it become KLAY-FM and serve the South Sound. But can they afford it? I'm sure iHM would charge as much as possible for the license, even though it would not make a visible dent in their debt.

Also, is there a similar announcement running on 104.9 KTDD? (Can't hear it where I live.)
