WDJO Finally on 99.5 with range

I was pleased to see, and hear, DJO on 99.5 AND with a range that we can pick up on the East side of Town. Sounds great. How did it happen????

Good to see this has finally happened, even though it doesn't affect me (I'm in Orange County, CA SoCal) I've been listening for years and years on the stream so I hear all the stereo, glad to see local people can get the station on FM. My opinion is WDJO is THE BEST oldies station in the USA. David Eduardo, if you're out there Mr Gleason, please opine on how or why they just didn't go full force with a "regular" FM station rather than a translator....
Here's some links from radio locator and I tried to show a picture of what their high tower looks like

Just want to echo the sentiment about WDJO being the best oldies station. I'm a former Cincinnati resident (40 years ago, that is), and I enjoy WDJO on the TuneIn app from Florida, where we live now. Great selection and professional presentation!

I'd assume the reason they did not buy a fill signal FM are multiple. First, there may not be one for sale. If there were, the cost vs. the billing potential might not justify the investment. They bill at a level that allows a sustainable, but likely small, profit, and probably have a good time doing it.

The only recent sale in the market was WNKN, which does not cover the city of Cincinnati well at all, for $5.3 million. Figure that a good signal that is home to Hamilton County would be in the $10 million range... not sustainable for the format on WDJO.

75% of the audience is over 55, so with a full signal they would have a big investment, and still not be able to get the major agency accounts due to demos. What they are doing, in the meantime, is a nice and likely safe niche.

I did a little driving around on my Trike Friday when it got warm and discovered that if you get east of Batavia or any area south on the east side you loose the station and pick up a Ripley station that used to broadcast out of Russellville. I pick it up in my home but if I tune it in while in the car, even in my driveway, I get the Ripley station. Go figure. According to Radio Locator I should be getting it fairly strong, but it isn't happening.

Because those maps are theoretical. They don't take interference into account, especially for translators. Full power FMs are not allowed to receive interference, but translators are. You'll get a listenable signal on the east side when (or if) they fire up the permitted signal for W300CI, which will be on 107.9.

Remember that the real useful coverage area is about 20% inside the innermost contour on the Radio-Locator maps. And, as Bill said, the maps are "predicted" and not "measured" contours.

Thanks, David, makes sense!

Wednesday had the need to drive up to Hamilton. Couldn't pick up 99.5 until I got to I 71 on 275. Before that, constant interference with WAOL in Ripley. Strong signal almost to Hamilton. Coming back on Thursday could not pick it up at all on the way back. Was it off?

The 1 watt signal was a temporary signal while they built the Construction Permit for 250 watts. It is on now I assume at full power. The radio-locator site shows the signal goes east-west-south from a tower in Wilder, KY. It should go east all the way to Amelia. West to Bridgetown, and south to Independence, but no signal north of I-74. Very directional. I don't know what you mean by "east side", but if you're north of 275 & Rt 32, you may not hear it.

I just looked at Radio Locator and it still shows nothing past Evanston. I'm r miles from Eastgate Mall and 4 miles from Batavia. All I get is feed from 107.7 in Dayton
