Good old WCCO has SIX hours of paid programs...from 11am-5pm on Saturday

KEYC Mankato has 2 hours of Bandwagon (YES!!) Its their locally produced polka/old tyme show from 11-1 then has 3 extra hours of E/I programming

WFSB in Hartford does the 6 hour infomercial block too on Saturdays and/or Sundays when CBS isn't airing programming.
 
FOX 61 in Hartford pre-empted most of the 6PM airing of 2 1/2 Men tonight to carry live coverage of the First Responders' Procession carrying the body of a state trooper who was killed in traffic accident on I-84 this afternoon from the accident scene to the Medical Examiner's Office. Police and Fire people from all over the state joined the procession.
 
I didn't realize it until I looked at the schedule, but I guess this is because of the Final Four semi-final games being on TBS and TNT.

I looked at WREG's schedule and sure enough they're running infomercials again. :p :(

I know it probably happens on all of them at one time or another, but bring back shows like Wide World of Sports, put on movies, repeats of prime time shows, ANYTHING to keep local stations from filling the time with infomercials!!!

KIMA's running nothing but infomercials between about 10a-3p Saturday. In the 1980s they used to run movies on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Not anymore. Even a bunch of Simpsons reruns would be better than infomercials.

not to be an arsehole but not the same thing...thats only 5 hours of paid programming broken up. WCCO has 6 hours straight. Then the news block from 5-6:30 (local 5-5:30 and 6-6:30, national between) then they have the infamous CBS O&O favorite paid program...the cleft lip paid program
 
IMO these affiliates should have some reruns or movies or something other than infomercials when CBS has nothing to air on Saturdays and Sundays. WREG had one of the largest movie libraries in the country (probably up there with WCBS) back in the 1970s. But of course with movie rights being held to cable networks, it doesn't give the OTA affiliates many choices. I'm sure there are people who would love to watch a double-feature on a lazy Saturday afternoon?

The issue is there are some syndicated movies that are available each weekend. But with larger markets those movies are taken by CW and My affiliates. As example the movie last week was "Secret Window". It was on my local (Minneapolis) CW but this week on the CBS stations in Duluth and Rochester (well Mason City, IA) it was shown today.

Just looking at some neighboring markets its interesting.
Fargo/Grand Forks simulcasted MeTV during the day.
LaCrosse had some syndicated programming.
Green Bay was paid propgrams.
Madison had some "Worlds Funnies" programs
Des Moines had some syndicated shows
Sioux Falls had paid programs
Sioux City had mainly paid programs but also Ring of Honor at noon (Sinclair station)...Looks like its normally on co-owned FOX station.
Quad Cities had 2 movies on
 
I really didn't notice it until looking at the schedules later, but apparently the championship game for the Final Four is on the Turner networks this year. Is CBS giving up on it?

per the contract it alternates between CBS & TBS for the final four games. 2 years ago it was on TBS also.

Since 2015, CBS and TBS split coverage of the Elite Eight. Since 2016 CBS and TBS alternate coverage of the Final Four and national championship game, with TBS getting the final two rounds in even-numbered years, and CBS getting the games in odd-numbered years.

"Secret Window" was on the My Network affiliate in Charlotte.
 
Man United-Spurs FA Cup semifinal could be preempted by your FOX network

Warning! Be prepared to make alternate viewing plans in case your local FOX station won’t be showing the Manchester United vs. Spurs FA Cup semifinal this weekend. That’s because many FOX stations nationwide, particularly in Texas, will be televising live coverage of the funeral for former First Lady Barbara Bush.

On Saturday, the Barbara Bush funeral will be televised by many channels from Noon-3pm ET. And the important semifinal between Manchester United and Tottenham from Wembley Stadium in London? That’s scheduled to kick off at 12:15pm ET on the over-the-air national FOX network.

A few FOX stations have either moved Manchester United-Spurs to an alternate FOX station or will join the match in progress after the funeral has ended. For example, WFTX in Fort Myers will join the game in progress around the 60th minute of the match. In Houston, FOX channel KRIV is moving the game to its sister station KTXH, while WSVN in Miami is moving the game to its digital 7.2 station.

not a pre-emption but moving programs around due to national programming
KEYC Mankato (only station in the market) is moving syndicated shows from their FOX sub to CBS main due to FOX having a ton of sports in the next few days. Guess this is the advantage of signing off nightly (yes they still do) is that they can move stuff around.

Thursday due to draft was easy. "The Game" moved from KEYC-DT2 1AM to KEYC 1:07 so that they could sign off at 2am (FOX syndicated programming ran until 2am)
Friday is a cluster
Big Bang episode at 6:30 moves to 11pm
Modern Family moves from 6pm to 11:30pm
Now the "secondary" runs of BB at 9:30 and MF at 10 are basically running 1/2 hour later

Mom moves from KEYC-DT2 10:30pm to KEYC at 1:07am
Game moves from KEYC-DT2 1:00am to KEYC 1:37am

weekend syndicated shows get moved to the CBS main due to FOX having sports all day
Mike & Molly moves from KEYC-DT2 5-6pm to KEYC 1-2pm Saturday
Judge Judy moves from KEYC-DT2 11-noon to KEYC same time

I'd be interested to see what happens when the new ACC Network from ESPN starts up next year- WLOS/13 in Asheville likely loads up on infomercials, while WBTV/3 in Charlotte will finally be able to show all of CBS's golf events in their entirety. As well as national CBB games from CBS.
 
WBTV not carrying the NBA in the late 70s was because the league just wasn't popular. Maybe because they'd make more money with a old movie or off-net repeats than with the NBA, where they wouldn't be able to have as much ad time.
