WTZA-AM, which has tried many formats over the past several years, is flipping to Egyptian Pop tomorrow according to a press release from owners K&Z Broadcasting. The release stated, "We have been watching the success of 790 AM with Korean and realized the market had a major hole for today's Egyptian hits."
The announced lineup is as follows:
6-10AM - Mummy in the Morning
10AM-3PM - At Work with Anwar
3-7PM - King Tut
7PM-12AM - All Request Show with Cleopatra
Cleopatra will feature "The Top 5 at 9" every night. She commented, "I expect an exciting competition among the likes of Mohamed Fouad, Hisham Abbas and Sherine."
The station's first contest will be called "Name the Pharaoh." WTZA personalities will read a brief bio of one of the famous Pharaohs and give listeners 3 possible choices. Each winner gets a gift card from Cairo Cuisine in Northlake Mall. At the end of the contest, one name will be drawn from the gift card winners for an authentic chariot and 4 days at the Golden View Beach Resort in Sharm El Sheikh.
The station's commercials start at $10, but discounts are available for long commitments. The press release from K&Z Broadcasting said, "We want to make it clear that we are not a pyramid scheme but a legitimate station."
In closing, management stated they are in discussions with Nielsen to insure a proper representation of Egyptians in the PPM panel.
