Ben Shapiro is so boring on kabc

OMG if cumulus thinks Ben Shapiro will help there numbers at night they are sadly mistaken. He was good co hosting with Brian Whitman on the morning answer. But kabc after 6 pm is a joke. Seems like they are fine bein a laughing stock of a talk station. First off fire drew hayes.

Given their poor signal it really doesn't matter what the programming is. Rush in his prime could not elevate the station in its current state.

Rush can't elevate his own station. Although he tries.

Nice cheap shot!

Rush is heard on approximately 590 stations and I believe is still the most listened to political talk radio show in America. Also, unlike most other syndicated talk shows, stations pay his syndicator a fee to air it, as opposed to a more normal barter, meaning his show is literally worth money to the stations that air it - thus you would presume he is the centerpiece propping up the station in most of those situations.

I know it is fun to take cheap shots at talk hosts you may not personally like, but just because he is not as popular as he once was (as I alluded to in my original post), he is still the king of political talk radio.

I don't know what you're talking about. Have you seen the ratings at KEIB? This is the Los Angeles board, and we talk about Los Angeles stations here. He may be the king in other markets, but lot LA. The fact that iHeart won't put him on KFI says a lot.

KEIB is 50 kw day, 44 kw nights at 1150. It can not compete with the lower dial position of KFI, but is a pretty decent facility when compared to stations higher on the dial like 1020, 1070 and 1110.

KEIB's problem is that it misses the far northern and southern portions of the market (SFV, Santa Clarita, High Desert and lower OC) where the more conservative and non-ethnic population tends to be more highly concentrated.

KEIB puts a 50 mV/m signal over Barbra Streisand's home, but that's not an area where Rush and his cohorts at KEIB are going to be found. And anyone who listens is likely not to admit it or wear a PPM while doing so. It's California, where being conservative is downright dangerous.

Which probably explains why iHeart has him KEIB and not KFI. Considering the market, it's not really saying anything at all, much less 'a lot'.

If KEIB doesn't cover the more non-ethnic, more conservative further-out suburbs of Los Angeles, maybe the station's previous status as Progressive Talk outlet KTLK made more sense. Until a few years ago, it was the home of Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann and other progressive hosts. Barbra and her friends got a great signal for these shows!

But when KFI wanted to go all-local weekdays except for Coast to Coast AM, KEIB was formed as the LA home of iHeart/Premiere Network syndicated shows including Rush, Hannity, Beck, Buck Sexton, Clyde Lewis, etc.

Getting back to the original post, it seems Cumulus/Westwood One is very high on Ben Shapiro. It took away an hour of Curtis Sliwa's time on WABC NYC for Shapiro to be heard 5-6pm. It took away an hour of John Batchelor's time on WLS Chicago to have Shapiro at 9pm. Despite low ratings, KABC seems to be trying to avoid running syndicated shows except Red Eye Radio late nights. KABC must be making money despite low ratings because it could just plug in Westwood One shows instead of paying its local hosts. But at 9pm in LA, it's now Ben Shapiro.

Interesting that Cumulus only gives him an hour. I have the feeling if another Westwood One host should leave, or ask for more money, Cumulus could plug Shapiro into that person's time slot... even if the original poster says he's boring.

I'm probably one of the few members on this board who agrees with much of what Ben Shapiro says. That having been said, he speaks so quickly that he is un-listenable. After five to ten minutes of his staccato delivery I am EXHAUSTED! It's a shame, really...

That's exactly the point. Well said.

I agree with a a lot of what he says but he is very boring to listen to by himself. That's why he was goid with Brian Whitman they played off one another.

Brian on his Facebook page said that I wish elisha had cut her teeth in a smaller market. I liked her but apparently there numbers have doubled since the show became Brian and jen. But I do miss Brian and Bens sparring it was funny. Loved them a few years ago when on April fools say Brian was the conservative Ben was the liberal. They talked about him control very fumny.

I remember that show too. It was pretty funny. I've never liked listening to Jen. Even with Doug Stephan.
