KBKS Stunting, Bender out

Just as most people thought. An uneventful announcement. Format remains the same. New logo and a contest for the third chair of what will definitely be Carla Marie and Anthony in the morning. Yawn.

All stunting for the same BS! Was actually hoping for an adult station, not the same old kiddie crap. The million dollar question...will they get their audience back that they had before the 'stunt'? From their social media, it looks unlikely.

Actually musically you can already tell a difference. They are trying to find that gap between KNDD and KQMV. They actually sound a lot like they did in the late 2000s with this format. Obviously the goal is to create separation from KUBE and differentiation from KQMV.

Good observation. Maybe the "announcement" and stunting was intended to mask a shift in music blend, rotations, ratio of currents to recurrents and gold and the like.

I would be fun to look at the music a week from today and compare it with the music from, lets say, a month ago on all these criteria.

The hyper-power rotation of the past week is helping this change stand out. Three alternative crossovers in the first 25 minutes so far.

Ha ha ha ha ha. What a nothingburger!

What? Do they think listeners are going to say "Boy, they got me good with that one, hahaha. A real knee-slapper there".

Or "Whew! I am so happy they are not changing! Now I gotta text all my peeps about it!"?

More like "Screw this f---ing radio station".....

Kiss is an adult targeted station.

The CHR target most everywhere is 18-34 and 25-44 women in most cases; CHUrban stations may be closer to a male / female balance but still the target is in the same age ranges and is all adult.

KBKS's teen audience is around 15% of the AQH composition, about the same as the 45 and over percentage. The station is about 60% female and 40% male based on AQH, not cume.

* Multi-book average.

I would like to see KBKS return to that Modern-leaning Too 40/CHR direction that was their bread and butter and shift the Rhythmic Pop/Dance product back to KUBE. That strategy could work but in this day and age it would be highly unlikely.

Most likely: "Whew." Next most likely: "What." Least likely: "Screw."

Remember how IHOP messed with people's minds with the "IHOb" hype? Did those folks stop eating there once they realized nothing was going to change, cursing the chain for making them worry for a few weeks? Nope. Same will happen to this radio station. A stunt, instantly forgotten once the big reveal revealed the same old format. CHR listeners will stay put.

Um... I have no words except for maybe WTF? Great stunt over the weekend, but how long are they going to run without a name? I suspect this isn't the end of the story. Has anyone taken a look at the website? What's it look like? Is it still the splash page that it's been the last few days, or is the normal website back?

IHOP didn't get rid of one of their best known pancakes though did they? Dropping a heritage morning show will absolutely affect your ratings in a negative way. The fact that they did that while stunting for a week and didn't change formats, that is something that listeners will remember and not in a positive way. Long-term I agree with you, but in the short-term I'm sure they will take a hit.

We got all worked up....for THAT?

No WONDER iHeartMedia is bankrupt. Their ideas are about as plentiful as their cash flow.

Cripes....here in my home market(Buffalo, NY)two stations from across the border(which have a history of underperforming in their own market(St. Catharines-Niagara)came under new ownership(from a company which is more into radio consulting, though it does own another station near London, Ont.). For the entire month of February, they were running promos on both stations saying that a new format was coming to each station. Come March 1st, said formats debuted: the 101.1 frequency became 70s-90s 101.1 More FM, while 105.1 took the music that WAS on 101.1 before the change and became known as The River. THAT was a well-done reveal. This? Not so much.

Gee, iHeart had cash flow of $218 million in the second quarter of 2018, so they must be having loads of big ideas!

iHeart voluntarily entered bankruptcy because the debt of a poorly planned LBO was overwhelming them in a post-recession radio economy.

As an operating station group, they are doing quite well with about $400 million in operating cash flow so far this year.

I continue to think that the stunt was to mask both the morning change and a change in music blend, which we can analyze in the next few days.

Morning shows are always polarizing; if they are not, they are not morning shows... they are just DJ shows. So, if the iHeart research showed that the morning show had a disconnect with the music listener base, they might actually go up (but, like you, I doubt it). So they may take a small hit, but that's the cost of modifying the format.

iHeart Media is Kiss' problem, not Bender.
