I wouldn't be surprised if Mix beats Star to the Xmas punch and flips on 11/1.
Considering the Mix ratings of late, they SHOULD pull the trigger. They've got nothing to lose.
Well, that's cryptic. I checked out the morning show a few times and it's not bad. It's not my cup of THC, but it's not bad for that type of format.Agreed. But to what format after the holidays? Do they want to start a format war with another station, or do a format that hasn't been attempted in Buffalo(at least in a LONG while, if ever)?

Ok folks....the winner is....both Star 102.5 and Mix 96 started all Christmas 7x24 this morning Nov 5th. Good thing we have lots of Canada stations to listen to!
My prediction: Once Christmas is over, Star will go back to Hot AC. Mix WILL NOT. (Then again, I could be wrong with the second half of that prediction.)
MIX was in a ratings abyss, so flipping to Xmas Muzak gives them 2 months to reboot the format. It likely won't be a format change, but yet another rehashing of Hot, Warm or Tepid AC. It's ironic that they can't even take advantage of the old JOY moniker (which is suited for Xmas). Since they were chasing younger demos anyway, the Xmas sludge is just as likely to repel the few they had...
I'm guessing it will be something "Easy," "Warm" or "Breezy."
Who knows... my post is nothing more than speculation inspired by the thread. For all we know, it could be business as usual after the Fall book. Think of all the business cards, stationary and promo material that would have to be re-done [/sarcasm] The present Mix morning show is on bus cards all over Western New York and seems to be making a name for itself. Last I read on this board the WJYE call letters are assigned to a small station in Maine. A sales rep years ago told me that market research revealed that listeners thought of the old Beautiful Music format when they heard the words "Joy" and "FM 96." That said, the W-J-Y-E call letters on their own standing (without using the word "Joy") seemed to work well with the AC "Lite Rock Favorites" format that preceded Mix 96 moniker and the W-M-S-X call letters. At least W-J-Y-E articulated better than W-M-S-X, which can sound like "W-M-F-X" of "W-N-S-X." Then again, call letters today don't carry the weight they once did... witness Star 102.5; The Edge; 97 Rock; Classic Hits; Kiss 98.5 and Jack. So the station could be called anything as long as the TOH legal was correct.Or...wait for it..."Joy"
