Is 94.7 WMAS off the air>

I was checking to see if it started playing christmas music and went to find it silent. Its just been static all day. I can't get it as well in Wallingford as I used to. I know It's not my radio because i can pick up other stations just fine

Just went on their website and can play the station just fine.

No one seems to be tweeting about any sort of outage. I'm not near a radio right now. How far are you from Springfield? Maybe it's running reduced power for some reason.

Im about 47 miles away in Wallingford. Its a bit far but I was able to hear the station pretty well. I just want to point out that just because you can play the station on their website doesn't mean their transmitter is on and its actually on the air

That's fringe for 'MAS. I'm just north of you and it's marginal here. WHYN-FM comes in much better, and WFCR and WAQY are practically locals.

Walking around portions of southern and western Newington and the north end of Berlin with my old Panasonic AM/FM/CD "Walkman":

WAQY-FM 102.1 comes in the best. Spotty, but usually listenable.
WHYN-FM 93.1 is weak, mostly due to distance (Mount Tom in Holyoke).
WMAS-FM 94.7 is weak, due to their lower tower, despite more power.
WFCR-FM 88.5 is weak, occasionally pop in with stereo. Where is their transmitter?
WEIB-FM 106.3 is virtually non-existant.

I don't get their stations on 90.7 FM (WTCC-FM) or 100.9 FM at all.

People on facebook did complain that they wernt getting the station so it wasnt just me

I didn't notice your post about 94.7 WMAS until Monday evening. If My Mom and I are running errands on Sundays before Noon WMAS is what we have on in the car. We punched up the station Sunday Morning and static, so we listened to nothing. Sunday is the worst for radio in the market.

My Mom's number one choice is Lite 100.5 and they run Smooth Jazz until Noon on Sundays.
My Mom's number two choice is Kool Radio and they run Italian Programming til 1PM and a Lutheran Church Mass til 2PM on Sundays.
My Mom's number three choice is 94.7 WMAS.

It's on Mt. Lincoln in Pelham.

WEIB-FM 106.3 is virtually non-existant.

What about WLZX 99.3? (It shares its tower with WEIB, but transmits at twice the power.)

How interesting that WFCR is "practically local" for you and "weak" in an area closer to Amherst. Is your listening post situated on a hill?

Has WWCO in Waterbury put its 106.3 translator from West Peak on the air yet? They got approval earlier this year, and I stopped checking some time ago. I’m away and can’t check now.

I'm on the east side of Meriden, higher elevation than downtown or Wallingford, where WFCR has trouble. I don't get to Newington often, but do drive in Berlin and New Britain and WFCR is a solid signal on my car radio in both places. I must clarify that my comment on the strength of WFCR and WAQY related to my mobile listening, as I do most of my FM listening in the car. I have three radios at home -- an XM boombox, an Insignia HD Radio, and a Sangean multiband portable -- but don't use them much.on standard FM. The Insignia barely picks up WFCR at all, but its sensitivity is the worst of any radio I've ever had. The only reason I have it is to enjoy two of the HD2s from West Peak.

As for 99.3 FM of Northampton? I almost never get anything here. WPLR-FM 99.1 of New Haven wipes it almost nearly all the time. I'm from New Britain's south end, but staying with a relative on the Berlin/Newington town line at present.

When I drive up I-91, WFCR's signal is reliable only north of Higby Mountain—just beyond the (mostly closed) Middletown rest area. I also recall receiving a fairly good signal in Newington along the Berlin Turnpike north of Stew Leonard's.

I bought an Insignia HD tuner for my father years ago because his NPR station had moved its classical programming to the HD2 subchannel. Although he lived within the metropolitan area, his Insignia tuner could not receive the 100 kW signal reliably. Because you can probably see West Peak from your home, reception is clearly not a problem for your preferred HD2 listening.

I thought about the WPLR interference—right after I posted my reply. Incidentally, since you're in Newington (for now, at least), are you near the WPOP transmitter? The reason I ask is that there have been reports of its diminished signal. Has the thicket around the towers thickened?

I don't know about WPOP-AM 1410. That's off of Cedar Street (CT Route 175). I'm at the Berlin town line, east of the Berlin Turnpike. I don't drive and am rarely up there.

Hey all I am enjoying Retirement for radio. I got into the aviation industry these days...99.3 on 102.1 HD-2 comes in all the way until the drop on Route 15 in Meriden. I get it in Cromwell clear. In middletown its in and out and Route 9 is blocked going into new Brit... but fine again on I-84 thru Hartford. Too bad its no longer really hard rock. as for 94.7 what is with their new CP permit?

Entercom owns both WNSH and co-channel WMAS. In an effort to improve its signal in New York, Entercom requested a CP to move WNSH's transmitter to the WOR site, shortening an already short space with WMAS. The purpose of the WMAS CP is to adjust for signal overlap (CCI) by imposing a null in the direction of Rutherford, N.J.

What route(s) were you on when checking that station? I'm often in Berlin, a bit of New Britain's south end and along CT Route 372 in Cromwell (from the Berlin town line to near the Shop Rite in the Shunpike shopping plaza before CT Routes 3 and 9). About the only Springfield station I get at least some signal with is WAQY-FM 102.1, a.k.a. Rock 102. WMAS-FM 94.7 has more power over Springfield proper (too good in some spots!), but has a shorter transmitting tower and less height than the stations on Mount Tom in Holyoke (i.e. WHYN-FM 93.1).
