Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio filed a defamation lawsuit seeking $300 million in damages against three news organizations, saying their inaccurate references to his criminal conviction have hurt his chances at possibly running in for the Senate seat that was held by John McCain.

The lawsuit, filed in Washington, alleges that CNN, Huffington Post and Rolling Stone acted with malice by publishing statements they knew were not true. In the suit, Arpaio says CNN did not make any effort to correct a statement by anchor Chris Cuomo in a January broadcast that said he was a convicted felon. Arpaio's 2017 criminal contempt of court conviction -- for disobeying a judge's order to stop his immigration patrols -- was a misdemeanor, rather than a felony.

The pardon was irrelevant. His offense was categorized as a misdemeanor, not a felony.
That might have been an honest mistake by CNN, but it seems they are gonna pay for it.

What a bogus lawsuit,,Saying felony instead of misdemeanor is something you can sue about? If thats the case I’m surprised that every democrat, especially President Obama is not suing Fox News for similar comments and innuendos.

Maybe, but he'll end up with a formal apology and get to publicize CNN's incompetence at a minimum. They may just agree to a settlement too.

The case will likely settle. Joe Arpaio is 86 years old.
Likely he does not want this case to wind it's usual course through the courts.

CNN likely also wants to make this go away quickly and quietly, as it shines a
spotlight on some shoddy, sloppy journalism.

Actually, at a minimum, the judge could throw the case out for insufficient evidence. They're claiming one word, at one time, almost a year ago MIGHT affect his decision to run for Senate. He hasn't said he's running, and he lost his last election. This falls in the category of "frivolous." Especially given the amount of damages he's seeking.
