Michael Savage #1 on WABC 12+

The problem is, there is very little evidence that putting talkers on WABC who are less fawning over POTUS would do anything to increase audience. Even if a liberal talk format became a hit, it would take a long time to get there, causing ratings to fall off a cliff during the interim.

Though times have changed, WABC enjoyed some success years ago with such liberal talk hosts as Alan "B." Colmes, Lynn Samuels, and Ron Kuby.

Maybe the next Republican president will be more appealing to people who don't qualify for social security.

That won't be relevant under the grand old plan to disqualify all of us from receiving Social Security benefits.

Sid Rosenberg is going around boasting his morning show is beating WOR in the ratings—BFD

Funny given the topic of this thread. If WABC is doing so well, why is it getting a 1 share in the ratings?

Maybe these guys should spend more time entertaining, and less time bragging.

In my opinion, having Imus on in the morning, and John Batchelor on at night for so long hurt their ratings. I found both hosts to be unlistenable.

Even if a liberal talk format became a hit

It would be on an FM station.

How to make money at WABC? Maybe sports, but probably ethnic.

Maybe you could do some boss jock oldies thing for a little while, but that would not work very long so only if the talent happens to be the guy running the place.

Not sure exactly why he's berating WABC. The press release announcing Shapiro made it sound as though he approved this change. He wanted to lessen his daily workload, and this was a way to do it. If I'm WABC, and I have a syndicated host berating my station, I drop him immediately, rather than wait.

Savage tells his listeners that he is going to do a radio show for one hour and also have a "naked" two hour podcast that will be starting on January 7th. Not sure that is really lessening his workload despite the positioning. Savage is playing to the side of seeing the future and that while radio is important, it is not the place to put all of your eggs. Let's see. How has that worked for Bill O and various others? Savage just actually mentioned that he always liked Bill and commented that Bill is basically a has been since being off TV. Go figure. So what seems to be happening is he has been getting deleted and deflowered on the air and a podcast is his way to "fight" his own demise on his own terms, which will ultimately narrowcast him like all the others. But, he also claims that he has to get off the air to air all the dirty laundry that has caused his setbacks on the radio, including naming names of people who have turned against him and help to cause his demise on radio and never being allowed on Fox News Channel.

As for WABC, I see your point of dropping a national show off the air for negative comments, BigA. But, does anyone working at the station even listen, hear or care what he is saying? Savage says those in charge of WABC-AM are egomaniacs who have an agenda that does not include hosts like himself. This is a tough position, as we have discussed. He is partially correct. They really are in a no win situation. How does management at WABC come up with a winning formula on a station that staging the great comeback on is virtually impossible to accomplish? Those making the attempt have to know they will be on the chopping block soon enough, because there is no way to save this radio Titanic. Would you like to be known for further ruining an already wrecked station that was really not your fault? Doesn't look like a great resume builder to me. Nor the home of an egomaniac. Talk about Deer in the Tower Lights....

Kinda like playing music from the 40's and 50's as oldies....these times done changed.

What an a-hole. This is why this station is in the condition it's in. The problem this particular station has is they syndicate this worthless show. So even if he goes on the air and lies about management, they still are compelled to run him because they are his syndicators. But they will have the last laugh, because he will be off their air in due time. So yes they don't care what he says because no one's listening, and he'll be gone in two weeks.

Maybe if they could get Fox Sports and play-by-play.

Fox Sports has no radio play by play. The Fox Sports talk is syndicated by iHeart, and I think they're running some of it on WOR.

Or Cumulus could waste an FM and stick with the talk, but really with the way talk is going maybe just sell it.

There are those who would say that both of their FMs are wasted, but I'll leave that alone.

Cumulus has a national business built around its news & talk content. They need a New York clear for that content. That's what WABC is.

He Tibbs! Now Savage claims he's getting "censored!"

This is hilarious. He doesn't know what it means to be fired. I wish I could have claimed I was being censored every time I got canned. It doesn't work. He's not being censored, he's being replaced with someone who says the same thing, only differently.

Right, by play-by-play I mean one of the two baseball teams, football (what 3?) hockey and one of the basketballs. I thought iheart wasn't using Fox Sports in New York City. If those FM's are doing poorly then simulcast with one, WABC-AM/FM would then be the dominate talk station in the market. The point is even a 50,000 watt heritage AM has little value for attracting attractive demos. It can still be done (sometimes) with local sports play-by-play and ethnic programming, and even that won't last forever.

Savage claims he’s blackballed by Fox News Um, maybe, it’s simply that he’s perceived to be a kook, which, to a great extent, he is, in my opinion.
