Post your latest DX

I've used this feature before. But just for (laughs) and giggles, I tried it for KROC. Turns out to be 242.6 miles. I had said "more like 250".

The brutal honest truth is I'm just too lazy to do it most of the time. Also having traveled in my work for most of my career, I have a good enough grasp of geography....at least in the Midwest....to take a stab at a rough guess most of the time. But I do appreciate the suggestion. I really should do it more often.

Interesting conditions tonight on the Arctic receiver around 0630-0700Z. I don't usually hear the east coast stations well when I listen, but WBZ, WCBS, WABC, & WEPN all coming in pretty well. Usually I hear Calgary on 880, but WCBS was all over it tonight. From the midwest WBBM was the strongest along with WYLL over KSL. WLS strong & WWL fair. The eastern half of North America was stronger than the west tonight.
A brief tour of the Hawaii receiver had WBBM over KKOH.

Fired up my Panasonic RF-B45 and heard talk E-W under KFI 640, including mentions of Toronto. Added an external loop and it brought it up a bit, got a spot for an auto body shop there. New station (CFMJ), new city.

Tuned to 740 and heard a song that matched CFZM's playlist. Another new station. Tried for the TO station on 1610 -- nothing. Oh well.

For those curious, the RF-B45 is probably my best overall MW portable. It pulls in everything a Superadio will pull in, and sometimes then some. The last portable Panasonic made, and last one they made in Japan. Everything after that was made in China, and I think were made by other manufacturers.

Good signal from Algeria on 252 kHz (Long Wave) last night in Chicago area. Second time heard at my location in the past month.

Caught KBND 1110 on the Arctic receiver tonight with a good signal. First time I've heard that one on that SDR.

Wouldn't have expected that one. Congratulations. I've been expecting KFAB or WBT to turn up, but so far, I haven't heard either one. At least not that I could identify.

I thought I was going to hear WBT. When I realized it wasn't WBT I figured it had to be KFAB. Before I could check the web stream I heard the totally unexpected KBND.

CADXER, what receiver and antenna were you using?

Drake R8 and Quantum QX pro loop.

Man made and atmospheric poise on Long Wave is quite bad at my location. Pretty sure I would have better results with LW stations and NDB beacons if noise levels were lower.

There has not been much DX on the arctic receiver lately. Tonight all I heard was KBRW on 680. Pretty much everything else towards North America was missing.
However, the Hawaii SDR was wide open. Besides WBBM being on top of KKOH, I expected to hear KJR on 950, but instead it was a strong KAHI. 810 was a weak KGO with something underneath. Could it have been WGY? WBAP was good on 820 and 1170 was KLOK and KFAQ fighting it out.

1630 KKGM Fort Worth // stream, Stories of Great Christians show (kind of like Adventures in Odyssey). KRND under, and XEUT's offair test tone
1110 with country music under KBND, likely Los Angeles
1200 KYAA Soquel CA Big signal, day pattern? Relevant Radio
540 XEWA San Luis Potosi SLP 'Los 40' and top 40 music, this is a RARE catch!!
all heard last 15-20 minutes here. Haven't DXed too much lately.

This past weekend, my local 720 KSAH was off air for reasons unknown for a while. On Saturday night I managed to log a weak KDWN in Las Vegas (1,050 miles) and at sunrise on Sunday I logged a weak/moderate XEJCC in Juárez (489 miles).

I was surprised to find that 730 XEX throws a heavy amount of splatter onto 720 at night that is apparently masked by KSAH. It was so bad that off-tuning didn't help on either my CC-2E or Superadio II. I ended up making the KDWN logging on my Sangean HDR-16, which has automatic bandwidth narrowing.

On Sunday around 11 a.m., I was getting XEX via daytime skywave while driving. That's the lowest frequency on which I've ever had daytime skywave. I guess it helps that XEX runs at 60 kW (100 kW?). I wasn't able to listen for a while after that, and by early afternoon KSAH was back on the air.

Got a new one last night.

1060 KFIL MN Preston, fair with country music in KYW null. Matched with web stream. Certainly cheating with daytime power.

Also last night KRND on 1630 from Fox Farm, Wyoming with their Mexican format. Very good signal. Not heard lately. Used to be more common in the past. Local pest O'Hare Airport TIS missing. Guess their transmitters can't handle arctic temperatures.

They may have legally stayed on higher power due to the extreme weather emergency.

I've mentioned hearing WSB next to KTRH when I lived in Houston ... on the other side of 740, XEX was always dependable, too. Was able to hear them many nights with minimal slop from KTRH.
No idea how far north it's receivable. I've sure never heard it here in Ohio, nor the other Mexican juggernauts that can be taken for granted down in Texas at night.

KFIL is actually a daytimer. They simulcast on KFIL-FM (3.5kw on 103.1), but to the best of my knowledge, the AM is not known for cheating. Still....a daytimer being on at night during emergency conditions absolutely validates your theory. I was once involved in one of those episodes during a blizzard myself.

As for KFIL-AM, I lived and worked in their part of the world briefly during the early 70s. Then, as now, they were 1kw non-directional....and known for having a good signal. Given the hilly terrain in the area, leaving the AM on at night during extreme weather would have served a worthwhile purpose.

CHHA-AM 1610 Toronto, Ontario with 6250 Watts non directional making it 1340 miles to Laramie, Wyoming tonight. I am 3 miles by air from WPJZ253, a 10 watt TIS signal on 1610khz

Exploring a newly-discovered remote SDR in Puerto Rico, (apparently the Mayaguez area.). Top of the dial, down, 1540, presumably ZNS-1, Bahamas with continuous standards/pop with no ID.
1510-Presumably WLAC with talk
1500-WFED, Washington, Jim Bohannon Show and legal IDs
1190 Radio Cordillera, Bogato, Colombia, listed 5 watts.
1180-a couple of Cuban Rebeldes and Radio Marti
970 Radio Red, Bogata, Colombia
930, mix of Radio Reloj and something else (did not match the listed Colombian "Besame"...that's right, Kiss Me Radio)--TENTATIVE WIAC but not sure.
890-Cuba and 1 other
880-WCBS, not doing bad
800-PJB Trans World Radio, Spanish religion
790- Radio Minuto, Barquisimeto, Venezuela, not seeming all that affected by the turmoil, just playing tunes
NO WSB or CFZM ...also no or very weak Venezuelan
720-a weak WGN but mostly in the clear
700-very weak WLW with "W Radio" in Colombia and something else
690- "W Radio", Colombia (where you'll hear "Boogie Nights" on weekends.--logged on the Bonaire SDR frequently )
570-Radio Nacional de Colombia, no sign of Reloj from Cuba
530-all Radio Rebelde with no sign of Enciclopedia. Slight het.
