What formats do Myrtle Beach need right now?

We got too many country stations (107.9, 106.5, 93.9 - Horry County, 107.5 - Georgetown County, and classic country 105.5 - Horry County)
2 CHR stations - 97.7 and 92.1
3 rock stations - 107.1, Alternative 96.1, and classic rock 104.1

And as 94.5 the tide prepping its (possible) potential change from Hot AC, who knows?

Is there an Urban AC or Urban Gospel in this market?
 
From what I can see, it looks pretty balanced. The talk station is #1. Kiss is #2. Classic rock, classic hits, adult hits.

Given a 16% black population, you might say they're under-served.

I would agree.

The Tide was rhythmic oldies, which was the closest thing they had to urban AC after Kiss moved more toward rap. Wilmington's Jammin 99.9 is close but they reduced their signal strength.

In addition to some kind of urban AC, Myrtle Beach needs a true easy listening station instead of a station that jumps back and forth between easy and AC every few minutes.
 
Myrtle is actually well represented overall. Way better than Wilmington.

Wilmington is now missing a rock station, an adult hits station, and a classic hits station

WRNN is not a news station, it is what is called "news/talk". It is not uncommon for that format to be #1, but the listeners tend to be much older. WRNN is #1 in 12+, but 7th in 25-54.

I didn't realize the retirees pushed the city's average age to 42, always thought MB was a place like Hilton Head, where people came to vacation and play golf, not settle down. Does that mean oldies could still work there at least with marginal profitability for a station owner, or is a focus on those two decades a fatal choice for a radio format even in a town with tots of seniors?

I remember when I was there, I was told there were more golf courses per capita than anywhere else.

Surf, although it's mainly limited to beach music.

No one is doing really old rock and roll, unless Surf is. That would be covered by "easy listening".

Wait. Georgetown has 1470 and 101.1.

Wow, now that is truly a 55+ focused flip! Right-wing talk, I guess, makes more sense than any music format not currently in the market just because senior citizens in places like South Carolina are united by their politics more than they are by their music.
