94.5 Tide / WYEZ

Morning show host Nick Summers is out and FCC site shows a filing for new call letters - any idea what's going on?
I personally have wondered why they didn't move the WYEZ letters to WGTN-FM when WGTN-FM took over the WEZV simulcast. It's not like the letters have meant anything since Yes 94.5 became Movin'.

I make a list of all the songs I hear when streaming WEZV. I don't hear them all because I listen just long enough to hear what song is playing and then come back when I think it's time for another song, although I get distracted.

Based on lyrics I write down and Google later, these are some of the songs that have been added in recent months. Some could be wrong because they happen to have similar lyrics.

"Home" by Phillip Phillips, "Don't You Wanna Stay" by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, "Breakaway" and "Stronger" by Kelly Clarkson, "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" by K.T. Tunstall, "Brave" by Sara Bareilles, "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw, "Unwritten" and "Pocketful of Sunshine" by Natasha Beddingfield, "Constant Craving" by k.d. lang, "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, "All for You" by Sister Hazel and, "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White Ts.

"Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum would count as "newer". I don't know if was added recently but they just played it.

Some more newer songs that may be recent additions:

"Collide" by Howie Day, "Let Her Go" by Passenger, "Drive By", "Oh I Swear to You" and "Drops of Jupiter" by Train, "Another Sad Love Song" and "Un-Break My Heart" by Toni Braxton, "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis, "100 Years" and "Superman" by Five for Fighting, "One Call Away" by Charlie Puth, "Stay" by Rihanna (or Kelly Rida; both have one particular lyric repeated), "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, "Waiting On the World to Change" by John Mayer, and "When I'm with You" by Sheriff.

Again, except for "Happy" and a couple of others, these are the songs that come up when I do a search with the lyrics. Some could be wrong.

I'm not going to go searching for all my lists, but I thought of several more. The same songs get repeated a lot.

"Fallin'" and "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5 and "Hey Soul Sister" by Train.

Could 105.9 be going full blown AC as it sounds that way. As something is going on at 94.5 The Tide not sure a format flip or what because they have no djs. But many markets can support a soft/AC and a Hot AC owned by the same company. If 94.5 flips what will it be? Not country, rock, top 40 as we have enough of each format

There probably will be a format change on the Tide. Their website is now down.

If they are changing formats these are my guesses:
1. Urban - 98.5 KISS fm needs a competitor
2. Urban AC - Myrtle Beach was lacking one for a few years (although it didn't work very well)
3. Sports - ummm, maybe?
4. Urban Oldies - .......i doubt it

Let me add a few more songs on WEZV. They're not "newer' since they're from the 90s, and some of the ones I listed above might be that way, but "Don't Speak" by No Doubt, "The Sign" by Ace of Base, and "Good Riddance" by Green Day.

Looks like it's talk:

Byrne Acquisition Group will flip Hot AC “94.5 The Tide” WYEZ Murrells Inlet/Myrtle Beach SC to Conservative Talk “Talk 94.5” WTKN on May 6.

Former 99.5 WRNN-FM morning co-host Liz Callaway will anchor mornings followed by a syndicated lineup including Glenn Beck, Dennis Prager, Ben Shapiro, Larry Elder, Dr Sebastian Gorka, and Red Eye radio. Callaway exited WRNN-FM in February after 5 1/2 years in mornings alongside Dave Priest to join the Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball team as Corporate Marketing Manager and on-field host, positions she will retain.

So now who does AC?

WEZV is currently still doing easy listening. In recent months the station has added one song each by Kenny Rogers, Barbra Streisand, Bread, The Carpenters and B.J. Thomas, as well as a duet by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle. I've heard two different songs by Barry Manilow, and Air Supply, Olivia Newton-John and Neil Diamond have stayed around since the change a year and a half ago.

I heard "Smooth" today but it's not exactly "Newer" and I'm not sure whether it was added recently.

Conservatives have been pouncing on Radio Stations {For Sale} on the 94.5 MHz Frequency for several years now. I first noticed this when they purchased WGTK 94.5 MHz in Greenville S.C.. While listening to this Station on numerous occasions, I observed another Conservative (Talk-Radio) Station based out of Eden, N.C. which was causing interference in Northern Charlotte, N.C. to WGTK 94.5. Neither of which is local to Charlotte, N.C.

So the trend {of purchasing Stations} continues it would seem, and quite frankly it does not surprise me at all to be honest.

Steve.

Believe it or not, 93.7 in Georgetown is AC. Apparently they can't make up their minds.
This station seems to change every few years. Here is an opportunity to once again begin simulcasting 93.9, which is a mix of new and classic country. Let's say 105.5 FM manages to keep playing classic country. This means the current format on 93.9 isn't needed and they have a perfect opportunity at this point.

Not that this adds anything to what we already know, but I asked a question here or on another site about "Chelsea Renee" who did the weather on WEZV and was told she worked on The Tide. Today she is the midday DJ on WEZV. I didn't hear her say she was filling in for Diane DeVaughn Stokes. That doesn't mean she didn't say it at another time.

Easy 105.9 just played at 11:10 PM, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You. Following this song was a Rob Thomas song which was regular not a Christmas song. Mariah Carey's song must of accidently got added to the playlist.
