As reported in the trades, out after 5+ years in PM drive. No word on why...he was also MD so his replacement will have the same duties.

Are you sure that his replacement will have both jobs? It could be possible they could hire tow different people to fill out both jobs.

Very unlikely. MD positions are generally filled by an on-air staff member or another multi-function staffer, possibly the PD themselves. Stations are not making two jobs out of one in this era.

You might be right, and forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question just what does MD stand for?

I finding it ironic that the station's name is The End, and I couldn't believe it would be the name of station. And plus who would want to be a dj on a station with this name, as it could win up at some point your job there could live up to the station's name. Just like for the afternoon host, as right now they have listed end music.

Ironic? Hmmm...I don't think that word means what you think it means. The End has been at times wildly (and other times at least mildly) successful for the better part of 27 years, with only minor alteration of format. It's called The End because of it's dial position. It makes a ton of money and has for a very long time. It's a music intensive format so the announcers do tend to come and go, but that's kind of what they sign up for with an alt rock format.

Music Director. Often the PD is also the MD, it may be a DJ or may not be a position in some stations. I never had one at any of the stations I owned, managed or programmed.

The station was named for being at "the end" of the FM spectrum. 107.7 is near the end, but 107.9 is vacant in the Seattle area.

It does make since but it is still weird of a name for a radio station to have, and I don't know how many if any others have The End for a name

In the 1990's (1990, actually, I think) it was an edgy name for a station that was going to concentrate on alt-rock and grunge, right before the grunge explosion hit in 1991.

At least one other station - Entercom's KDND in Sacramento. The station that held a very notorious competition where a contestant was killed. The interwebs have the details.

I believe also the Alternative station in Anchorage is also known as the End, which in that case doesn't make any sense because it's at 94.7. Rob already mentioned the other one I was thinking of.

There's also an alternative station in Charlotte that calls itself The End. Fairly common branding for alternative stations. There's another group of stations that use The Edge.

The Anchorage station used to broadcast as an LPTV - being heard on FM at 87.7 with the calls KZND-LP. So it was previously located on the left "end" of the dial.

I’m sure at a place that emphasizes “New Music Discovery”, there will be a MD of some type with an on-air shift...but the position is certainly not needed if you’re not adding new songs regularly to the rotation. Heck, a lot of places will give you the MD title even though all you’ll do is play the new songs for the staff/PD and take a vote

I do find it impressive that 27-28 years later, KNDD still has staying power and remaining somewhat relevant. Considering it’s the 3rd-4th oldest continuous alt rock station in the country and (I’d argue) it made a lot of its reputation due to the environment it started off in — the beginning of the grunge era in Seattle. Any alt rocker, good or bad, would’ve gotten a lot of press at the time in the area.
