They preempted that for this?

On my break at work, I just saw a scroll on top of the screen on tonight’s episode of Jeopardy! saying that the next episode will air on KABC-TV in Los Angeles early tomorrow morning at 2:06 AM, preempting the first part of ABC World News Now. Not sure if Wheel will follow at 2:36 AM. But the guide on the cable still lists World News Now.

Since my break was almost over when I posted the message above, I failed to mention that this is because of Game 4 of the NBA finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors starting tonight (Friday night) at 6:00 PM PT, so J! and Wheel won't be seen at their normal times.

OK, I was looking though the cable guide and I found out Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune are airing on MeTV tonight at 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM, but I got a feeling that's wrong. First, in my area, MeTV is on WLWT 5.2, when Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune air on WXIX. I had no clue why they did this. Must had been a error on my cable provider's part.

I just checked MeTV, and it was MASH. So yeah, this WAS a error. I had no idea why the cable provider decided to list them in MASH's timeslots.

It was likely because some markets where MeTV is owned by a larger affiliate will move syndicated programming there if there is a local pre-emption.

On Friday, the same day of this error, WPTZ in Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY (NBC) aired the annual Friday Night Block Party (a local jazz music festival that the station sponsors) from 7-8 PM in Jeopardy! and Wheel's slots. Both shows were bumped to their MeTV sub and they ran crawls during both shows earlier in the week to give fans advance notice. My guess is somehow, when WPTZ added them to their MeTV listings, they ended up somehow getting distributed to MeTV's national listings. J!/WOF were also listed on MeTV here in the NYC market, even though our MeTV affiliate (WJLP) has no relation to their usual station WABC.

No Wheel. World News Now joined in progress at 2:37 AM.

KABC is weird when it comes to making up Wheel and/or Jeopardy!. For some reason, they chose not to air Wheel at all on Wednesday, even though they've had it on the schedule for every other NBA Finals day (both past and upcoming). Also, on the day of Finals Game 1, as well as during a day of a playoffs game back in April, Wheel and J! aired in the order opposite the way they were listed, which angered many fans who tried to DVR J! (while James Holzhauer was still on) and ended up getting a recording of Wheel.

Sometimes when KABC pre-empts Wheel without an overnight airing, they will air the remaining episodes of the week on a one-day delay, with the Friday episode airing on Saturday in place of a rerun that would usually air. I'm not sure if they opted to do that this year, but they did do this last year during one of the NBA Finals weeks. For reference, the real Friday episode had the theme "Rail Tour" and was the Season 36 finale (not mentioned on-air since Wheel doesn't like viewers knowing the difference between new episodes and reruns, unlike Jeopardy! where season finales are always acknowledged by Alex). The "Saturday" episode airing for everyone else tonight is a repeat from May 2018 with the theme "America's Game" and the winner is a woman at the red podium named Rachelle who wins the Bonus Round by solving "A GROUP OF HEDGEHOGS".

KXTV Sacramento has been skipping Wheel entirely on all NBA Finals days, including the season finale, while they've been airing Jeopardy! at 1:06 AM. According to their programming director, that was the only time slot they had to work with and had to make a choice between one of the two shows, and they were not allowed to make up any of the affected M-F Wheel episodes over the weekend (meaning they couldn't air the season finale on Saturday), even though other stations do this fairly often (WVEC Hampton did this with both Wheel and J! last weekend due to pre-emptions from the Virginia Beach shooting). They also claimed that, although they initally had J! and Wheel listed in the 10 PM hour, they were contractually obligated to air a rerun of either 20/20 or Nightline (they chose the latter) in that hour. I think that excuse is BS considering KFSN Fresno, which is an ABC O&O, has been airing the game shows in the 10:00 hour just fine on NBA days.

for those who watched Impact Wrestling on Pursuit channel since it's move to that network, last night, the Pursuit channel screwed up and aired the wrong episode of Impact Wrestling. they aired last week's episode. this came off the heels of another Pursuit Channel screw up where the second half of the main event of the May 17 never aired, instead the rest of the time sot being filled with commercials. the fans were watching the main event match up of Michael Elgin vs. Rich Swann and never got to see the finish. Impact Wrestling also was simulcasting the episode live on twitch.tv at the same time in the case of the May 17 missed main event and last night's episode ended up being a twitch exclusive due to the screw up. and after the two Pursuit channel screwups, both episodes were uploaded on Impact Wrestling's in-house streaming service Impact Plus (which just rebranded to Impact Plus from GWN: the Global Wrestling Network, which launched shortly after the fail merger attempt with Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling, that resulted in the merger being canceled after Anthem Sports and Entertainment fired the GFW owner/founder, who also co-founded Impact Wrestling as NWA-TNA: Total Non-Stop Wrestling due to performing in Mexico and in the indys while drunk and or high) earlier than usual, they usually have it uploaded on a few day delay, but this week and 3 weeks ago, they had to uploaded it early for US viewers to see Impact Wrestling this week.

and with this, Impact Wrestling is so ready to leave that network as soon as possible. even if it means, being a streaming exclusive for now on.

also, Anthem owns Pursuit channel too.

In a perfect world, an affiliate would run all of its network programs. But there's a little thing called ratings. To cite one example, in the late '70s, NBC was placing show after show on the bottom of the Nielsens. WSB Atlanta was spending beaucoup bucks to replace those shows with movies and syndicated programs in order to maintain its top-rated presence in Atlanta. It turned out to be a factor in the station's moving to ABC, whose stronger lineup meant fewer pre-emptions and less drain on the station's bottom line. Likewise, for a couple of years (1972-74) WSB was the only station in Atlanta carrying its network's 4 PM show in pattern ("Somerset"); WAGA reran "Bewitched" and WXIA ran movies. Seeing the revenue 5 and 11 were bringing in, Channel 2 had no choice but to put on a syndicated show ("Mod Squad") at 4.

And Avid is right; most people probably don't notice if a show is network or syndicated; I suspect viewers in Raleigh think "Wheel Of Fortune" is an ABC show; in Greensboro, they think it's CBS; in Charlotte, NBC, because those networks' stations carry it in those markets, respectively. Likewise, I suspect a whole lot of viewers around the country think "Judge Judy" is either a CBS or a Fox show, since those networks seem to be in the majority of her station lineup.

I always had that issue too- I always thought "Wheel Of Fortune" is an ABC show(even though it was on WYFF/4 in the morning; it was an NBC daytime show); same thing with "On Scene: Emergency Response"(even though it was distributed by Group W, it aired on WYFF, which was NBC, so i thought it was a NBC show, until i saw the Group W logo) "Hee Haw" i always thought it was on CBS rather than syndicated too. Sometimes you can confuse a network show with a syndicated one... But i usually don't notice if a show is network or syndicated.

Yeah, it must be. I checked TV Passport for that day and it showed the right schedule. I was totally confused why both shows were on tonight. But it was just a error. Thanks for telling me about this.

"Wheel" was an NBC morning show back when my junior high science teacher had it on a TV (am I remembering that right?).

"Hee Haw" was a CBS show until they got rid of all the rural shows like "Green Acres" and "Beverly Hillbillies". Then it was syndicated for many years. I watched it on WSPA since WSOC put it on nearly a week later.

"Wheel" was an NBC morning show back when my junior high science teacher had it on a TV (am I remembering that right?).

The network daytime version of Wheel was on NBC from its start on January 6, 1975 through June 30, 1989, spanning three hosts: Chuck Woolery (Jan 1975-Dec 1981), Pat Sajak (Dec 1981-Jan 1989), and after Pat departed the daytime series for his talk show, Rolf Benirschke hosted the final few months. Vanna White remained on the show since her official debut in December 1982. It was replaced with Golden Girls reruns.

It moved to CBS on July 7, 1989 with new host Bob Goen, replacing a failed revival of Now You See It. Under his tenure, the show became infamous for its ridiculously-low budget (with values on the Wheel as low as $50, and vowels only costing $200 and later $100 compared to the iconic $250).

It then moved back to NBC on January 11, 1991, with the personnel and aesthetics remaining mostly the same, and still taping on CBS property. It replaced a short-lived revival of Let's Make a Deal. It was cancelled for good later that year, with the last new episode airing August 30, 1991. Reruns aired until September 20.

No Wheel. World News Now joined in progress at 2:37 AM.

This was also the case last Monday, and will also be the case on Thursday with Game 6. If a Game 7 is forced, Wheel and Jeopardy! wouldn't be affected either way since Game 7 would be on Sunday, the one day of the week neither show is on TV in most markets. A small few do opt to air the "Saturday" reruns on Sundays (e.g. KTUL Tulsa airs Wheel at 10:00 AM on Sundays), but none of them are West Coast ABC affiliates.

Unfortunately in the case of this past Wednesday (June 5), one of the contestants on that day's Wheel was from the LA area and couldn't watch her episode because of KABC's refusal to air it, as she mentioned in a comment on Wheel's Instagram page. Even though James Holzhauer is gone, Jeopardy! continues to receive much better treatment by affiliates than Wheel, which is one reason why the latter's ratings are almost-always lower in recent years. (One of the only times this season Wheel beat J! was because of the Kavanaugh hearings pre-empting everything before 7:00 ET, which is Wheel's earliest permitted time slot in the US)

KSDK St. Louis has been pre-empting Wheel of Fortune with Blues pregame specials every single day with a Stanley Cup Final game, even if the game wasn't airing on NBC that day. Unlike during the 2018 Winter Olympics where all of the affected episodes (11 new episodes and 3 repeats) aired in overnight slots, KSDK is not airing any Stanley-Cup-affected episodes at all. With the maximum seven games forced, they pre-empted 4 new episodes of Wheel and 2 repeats (Game 6 did not affect Wheel since it aired Sunday and Wheel is traditionally aired Mon-Sat).

Last Thursday, WNEM Bay City/Flint (CBS) pre-empted Wheel of Fortune with a local home shopping special. It was originally supposed to be an hour long and bump Jeopardy! and Wheel to late-night slots, but at the last minute, they announced the special would be only half an hour and would only pre-empt Wheel, and they would instead bump it to its MyTV subchannel at its regular time. Since it was a last minute decision, the listings didn't have time to get corrected, so anyone who programmed Wheel to record that day would have gotten a half-hour portion of CBS Overnight News, unless they saw the announcement in time and programmed a recording for Access instead, which is what Wheel replaced on MyTV. WNEM got a lot of complaints on their Facebook page regarding problems with processing online orders during their shopping special.

On Friday, WBZ Boston (CBS O&O) pre-empted Wheel of Fortune with an offseason edition of Patriots All Access, a show that usually pre-empts both Wheel and Jeopardy! (the offseason ones only affect Wheel) on Friday nights during football season, bumping them overnight (except if Jeopardy! has a tournament finals episode, in which case it airs on sister station WSBK which used to air both shows regularly; Wheel never gets bumped there).

Last Monday, CBS affiliate WVNS in Lewisberg, WV and its FOX sub both aired a one-hour special on the deadly 2016 West Virginia 1000-Year Flood from 7-8 PM, pre-empting Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! on CBS and Big Bang Theory reruns on FOX. WOF/J! didn't air at all (even though this pre-emption affected a J! tournament game), while BBT moved to the 3 AM hour in place of a news replay.
