Pardon my ignorance, but I don't know what it is about stations in the midwest and "Survive the Storm" severe weather specials. Not breaking news coverage or a tornado watch, but pre-produced Powerpoint-like specials on how to prepare for a storm.
Several stations in the midwest have pre-empted Wheel of Fortune (regardless of its time slot) with such specials this season.
Wed March 20: WBNS Columbus, OH (CBS) bumped WOF to 1:37 AM after Corden.
Thu March 28: KYTV Springfield, MO (NBC) bumped that day's WOF to Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM.
Thu Apr 4: KOMU Columbia, MO (NBC) didn't air that day's WOF at all. The real kicker was that the same special re-aired multiple times over the following weekend, so there was absolutely no reason to pre-empt WOF on a random weekday.
Thu Apr 18: WILX Lansing, MI (NBC) aired an hour-long special, bumping WOF and Jeopardy! to its AntennaTV subchannel, both of them replacing Archie Bunker's Place. This was the only weather special pre-emption that also affected Jeopardy!; all of the other affiliates aired J! as normal despite not airing WOF.
Wed May 15: KWWL Waterloo, IA (NBC) is bumping that day's WOF to Saturday night/Sunday morning at 1:32 AM, which will air as a double run with this weekend's Saturday rerun following it at 2:02 since NBC has the Preakness Stakes and Stanley Cup playoffs all day Saturday.
Is someone at Jeopardy! paying these stations to pick on WOF?
