SA PPMs.....KTFM back in the Top 10!

KTFM/Energy 94.1 is tied with The Beat in the latest PPMs. The changes Alpha Media has made since Grooves departure, is paying off. Vibe is back down since replacing Pop/Freestyle tunes with Hip Hop. A few weeks ago, people on their Facebook page asked about the 80s music being removed. No one at Vibe responded but I'm sure those post were deleted.

So be it. IMO, Vibe was sounding similar to Magic 92.5 in San Diego without the soul. PPMs were trending up until Vibe added Xavier and changed the playlist....Bad decision. G103.3 still doing their own thing but has added some 80s tracks.

With all these changes, it seems the station isn't working. I wonder how long until they begin playing some form of "música" instead of "music"?

San Antonio is over 50% Hispanic, but less than 20% of Hispanics (meaning 10% of the market) is Spanish dominant. There are very few shares available for Spanish language radio, and those are well covered by the existing stations that have Spanish language formats.

My point was KONO was trending down while Vibe was trending up prior to the heavy Classic Hip Hop lean. The most recent PPM now shows the opposite

Either Iheart or Alpha will see the opportunity in a true Rhythmic AC format. A station that plays Taylor Dayne, Seduction, En Vogue, CeCe Pennington, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Adele(remix), Karyn White, Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift, etc. Hits that made KTFM #1 in 80s and 90s mixed with a few currents and a few Classic Hip Hop tracks. The format would target KONO and Magic listeners. This would compliment Q101.9, in the Iheart cluster. As for Alpha, move the current format on 104.1 to 95.7.

Personally, I would love to see Alpha Media do it. 104.1 "The Rhythm of San Antonio"

And the most recent weeklies have The Vibe up at its highest level and KONO down.

All that does is point out the risk of putting too much reliance on individual months that are bouncy. And that goes double for the volatile summer months when panel turnover is high and listening is often atypical.

Thanks David. I appreciate the response. When selling time to potential advertisers, is it on weeklies or by month?

Weeklies are not considered "currency" by Nielsen and are intended to be a programming tool.

Agencies and clients that buy based on numbers usually look at anywhere from a 3-book rolling average to a 6 book average. Stations will sell on one book or averages, whichever looks better for them.

And remember, agencies look at any "wart" or "wobble" in the numbers as a way to hammer stations on their rates.

KXTJ-LP 96.9 plays that sort of thing. http://classichitssa.com/
However they have a very low powered and limited signal. Still better than nothing.

Nah, 96.9 is sounds like KONO and doesn't have that SA feel.

Example playlist:
https://977thebeat.iheart.com/music/recently-played/
This playlist needs to be modified a little so it can feel like SA but overall it's a good playlist. Add Drex and Hot Henrietta which are both in SA, this station could be HOT. Alpha Media owns those well known call letters(KTFM) to 30- 40 year olds.....104.1?

If anyone would flip to what you are suggesting it would be 104.5 KZEP to chip away from KSMG and KONO while complementing KXXM. Besides why do you think 96.9 doesn't have the SA feel? It does because the music playing on that station was the current music of the time all over the radio dial here in SA. From KITY, WOAI 97.3, KTSA 55, KONO 86 (early 80s), All Hit 76 KSJL & KTFM 103. In addition, the station is programmed by talent from those radio stations in the past which I just mentioned. While it may not have a modern SA feel, it does have the classic SA feel. If you like Freestyle, tune in on Fridays.

G103-3 has the original KTFM flavor. My thoughts is expanding G103.3 to simulcast on 95.7, will help expand their listener base and increase revenue. The signal covers the Southside of SA which is area G103.3 doesn't reach. I also change "G" thing something a little more catchy and fun. Nonetheless, 96.9 doesn't compare to the two sample hours of G103.3.
