Relevant Radio -- Salem

ANy idea what the programming on 1150AM would be...and when?

Well, when they close on the deal, they'll take over programming.

As for programming.. its going to be relevant radio's English language catholic talk network.. that's what they do... its all they do

I guess it's this?

1060AM and 1150AM will both be Catholic, huh?

(Not to mention some of the Catholic stuff on 950AM.)

That's a lot of catechism!

Yup, and Relevant Radio is the better of the two.. most other catholic stations carry EWTN with a small smattering of local programming. Most of thoise are preaching to the choir and very dry and boring.

Relevant Radio tends to be a bit more lively and like traditional talk radio.. give a listening to their weekday morning show .. morning air.. hosted by a commercial radio veteran.. its pretty decent

"Salem" coming from a New England background? Or...

" Salem is associated with word for 'peace', 'shalom', and is another name for Jerusalem. It's mentioned in Genesis..In Psalm 76:2 it says of God: 'His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.' A church named Salem is a place where God dwells."-- Christian Today

My guess is it's the latter and had little to do with the city of Salem which cashe$ in on Halloween as a result of the Witch Trials. That place name ultimately was inspired by an altered version of "shalom",
the actual inspiration.

That's a possibility... although Salem is pretty old testament for a group that seems be focused on Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and the rest of the New Testament prophets and disciples.

I looked it up, and found that Salem was mentioned in Genesis and Psalms... the old part of the Old Testament.

I wonder if anyone has asked. The two founders of Salem have done lots of interviews, many of which I just skimmed. None mention why the company is named Salem.

I am sure that their name was inspired from the Bible. Most Christian organizations usual pick a name from the Bible to be inspirational.

Could be but I think the intention was the biblical Salem. Would a religious network of stations choose a name that, around here at least, is associated with )ca$hing in on) witches and the occult... ? Or at least a holiday inspired by it.

And bad traffic jams. As someone who goes to Salem State to do a radio show, this time of year is...shudder... --oh well, alternative route to avoid downtown.

1150 can barely be heard in Salem, MA due to its directional pattern. 1060 can be heard in Salem fairly well by day, marginal at night.

Right about the name of City of Salem being of Biblical etymology...nowadays
the Halloween business model is ironic (the occult).Yeah maybe that owner from North Shore did tap into the idea of Salem as a city name when naming the company.Indeed.

I just looked up a few interviews, and while it never mentioned the naming of the company, one said that they were the #3 radio company (tied with CBS, before the Entercom/CBS merge) at one point.

Not sure how they calculated that....
