Fox Burning Through Last Man Standing Intentionally?

Fox shelved LMS in the Fall of 2019 to make way for another show. It was scheduled to restart last week, which it did, with two one-part episodes (that is the two shows were not connected in any way).

Now I notice that tonight's LMS is, once again, two independent shows and not a traditional two-part story.

Is Fox intentionally burning through LMS and plans to dump it at season's end?

I realize, along with virtually every other viewer, that LMS has had many significant cast changes which have resulted in a much poorer show than when it initially aired on ABC. The season of 'cancellation' and move from ABC to Fox are generally seen as a disaster for this once-leading sitcom.

on 1/23 FOX has a new show called "Outmatched" which is being shown at 7:30 CST so LMS will only have one show.

Or they value what it brings them and are using it strategically to fit their business needs.

Dear god, everything isn’t a conspiracy.

How many episodes did they order for this season? They would not start burning them off this early. If the ratings tank they will do that in the summer.

It's probably a combination of having a full season's worth of episodes to air (since I believe the order was placed before "Smackdown" was acquired for Fridays) and wanting to have a strong lead in to the second hour.

As far as it performing worse than it did on Friday's at ABC, I'd say it's not doing bad given Thursday's being very competitive.

does ABC miss it?

Sort of a complicated question. The show is produced by 20th Century Television. Apparently ABC didn't want to pay them for the show. So even though it was a hit, ABC dropped it and it went to Fox. Then Disney bought 20th Century Television. So now the company that owns ABC also owns the company that produces Last Man Standing. So I guess the answer is no, they don't miss it any more.

At the same time, this may explain why Fox appears to be running through the episodes of the show, so they can finish off the contract. No idea what may happen after that.

what will the MAGA crowd do when it's cancelled by FOX this time?

Depends on if it's canceled or if it just goes away. And now that Disney owns it, it may show up on some other owned channel.

But it was just renewed for this year, so it may be a while. They should have a bunch of episodes.

The political aspects of this show were blown all out of proportion initially and have now almost disappeared completely. Tim Allen's character "Mike" is still conservative and he still adores Ronald Reagan (and deplores Hillary) but it isn't played up as much as it once was. Even though I am on the other side of Mike's fence politically I enjoyed the jokes going both ways.

I don't see a future for this show though but not because of the politics. Rather, it has just had too many cast changes and of the worst kind. Season 1 got rid of the oldest daughter (Kristen) and her "boyfriend" (one of the Jonas brothers IIRC) but both were replaced and seemed to fit in eventually. After the cancellation the most popular character "Mandy" (played by Molly Ephraim) left to go find other work and a few episodes after that "Eve" (played by Kaitlyn Devers) assumed a part-time role which has since dwindled even further. Eve has been replaced by a Chinese exchange student and the new Mandy by another Molly which is not very popular with the audience. I haven't seen the viewer numbers since the series was resumed a week ago but suspect they will drop and continue dropping over the next few months.

Even if it is, we're seeing "Home Improvement" with daughters, plus he co-owns the company.

Not any longer if the most recent episode is any indication. The daughters, two of them anyway, were hardly any part of the show. In Home Improvement the kids were always part of the show (unless they were doing their studio work). Instead now we get a mother-in-law character.

I agree with that, and it's pretty obvious this was a financial decision.

One thing I have never understood since the show was new is that the studio claimed it was an expensive show to produce. How can any sitcom which takes place within a single sound stage be that expensive? I can't recall any other recent sitcom making that same claim.

How much was Tim Allen making?

TBBT was not a cheap show either.

The fact that they were paying a competitor for the show is more of an issue. Read post 11. Disney prefers the money to stay within the family.
