iHeart Radio announces major restructuring

I’m sure Matt Siegel will stay, but I also wonder about Billy Costa. Does anyone know exactly how long he’s been with Kiss 108? I know that at Kiss Concert and Jingle Ball he’s always the ones who interviews the performers backstage. It seems like he’s one of the oldest people who do that. I’ve watched similar things at other stations that have Jingle Ball, and it seems like the interviewer is usually a lot younger.

It's called Zetta. From RCS. look it up. It's technology that's "killing" local radio.

This is the same company that invented the music scheduling software Selector. Seems to me they were also involved in inventing voice tracking software for Clear Channel in the early 90s. The company is actually owned by iHeart.

Now at the very least, for 30 years now.

Well, Morgan's still on.
And, what’s interesting there, is that during a pre‐crossover w/Dan (at about 11:30), Morgan said something to the effect of, “...and—now this isn’t a surprise as I did mention this last week—I am going to be on tonight, tomorrow night and the next night—but, again, that was already pre‐scheduled as a fill‐in night”.
So, either Morgan is being given a third night, or maybe they are keeping Bradley on Sunday night/Monday morning, for now, to see how much of a stink listeners make.

Hearing Tom Cuddy sports gone too

I was under the impression that after the last time he was let go along he came back to BZ with a barter deal with BZ. If that was the case IHEART must have thought the ad time they were giving up was worth more to them the the content Cuddy provided.

That’s what I had heard as well.

Also did Jordan Rich have barter deal as well when he hosted the weekend overnight? That was a discussion as well in the past. Does Morgan have a similar arrangement - if so maybe that’s how he has survived.

Hmmm, that would be nice keeping Bradley on, but for ONE overnight only?

iHeart may pi$$ off a lot of us long-time devoted WBZ listeners - I won't forgive them for letting go Deb Lawler, Josh Binswanger, and Michael Coleman - but they're not totally clueless; they purchased all that wonderful technology and it doesn't make sense that they would tease us or appease us with a stunt with Bradley Jay such as you suggest. But, then again, they DID reverse a "dislocation" on a sports station in one of their markets, so I suppose anything's possible.

Oooh, now here's an interesting thought: why didn't iHeart sell off those technology purchases and then use the proceeds to keep WBZ TRULY "live and local"?

Monday is a holiday so Morgan was probably scheduled to cover for Bradley Jay so he could have it off.
Ah, that is another possible scenerio—Morgan gets Sat/Sun and holiday mornings..?

I’m guessing Morgan will be gone at some point. He probably has a low enough paycheck just working part time to have slipped the bean counter’s notice this round. Or if he has a barter deal he may not draw a pay check.

......." why didn't iHeart sell off those technology purchases and then use the proceeds to keep WBZ TRULY "live and local"?"......

Probably because nobody other than radio 'geeks' really cares about "live and local." Since cable news operations made the 24 hour news cycle the norm rather than the exception, all-news radio stations no longer hold the place in the culture they once did. WBZ figured this out long ago, and started relentlessly promoting the only two things that usually really count in 'live' (traffic) and 'local' (weather.) Remember how it would drive people to distraction when 'BZ spent months pounding away at 'traffic on the threes' ? Then, after 'traffic on the threes' became firmly embedded in local radio landscape. started promoting "Traffic and weather, together ?." They were ahead of the curve in realizing what people were going to continue to need local radio for in the future.

SiriusXM also provides in many metro areas traffic/weather channels, but the service is not free.

That service has been slashed over the years. It is now down to four channels, covering eight markets. New York City and Los Angeles have channels of their own. The other two channels are Boston/Philadelphia/Washington and Chicago/Detroit/Dallas-Fort Worth. No other cities matter, apparently.

At one time it emanated from iHeart's Total Traffic. So what you hear on WBZ is likely the same on Sirius.

If Liberty Media ends up buying a stake in iHeart, they definitely will be the same.

I caught a little of Morgan early this AM. As you might expect he was doing his Sgt.Schultz 'I know nothing' answer when asked anything. He was unclear too about this --coming-- weekend? He did ask the audience about guests they would like to hear from. Maybe it was out of habit or he thinks he's still in the lineup.

I had a feeling this would happen but then again I felt the same way last dec/18. There was always an uneasy feeling even with the studio move which seemed to solidify things a bit.

I heard the last 5 mins of DR's show and he offered nothing as to what was going on, maybe he did the previous four hours IDK?
They did a news loop after Mid with live traffic at 12:13 (on the 3's). I thought Bradley Jay did a nice job on a tough --5hr--shift. He'll be missed.
