Kobe Bryant Coverage

The very unexpected death of both Kobe Bryant and his eldest daughter in a helicopter crash this morning has stopped the music on all Entercom FM's, with the exception of K-ROQ, all simulcating KNK, KFI has gone live with the story as well. KABC has not (no suprise there).

You are very right it was very unexpected and shocking to say the least. And you don't normally hear a lot of helicopter crashes like airplane crashes. Which I have to imagine a lot of people in Los Angeles have to be broken heart, I did see it was his daughter, but didn't see that it was his eldest daughter that was also killed in the helicopter crash.

Postponing the LA vs LA game is certainly understandable. 9 people perished in the accident. Bryant was an iconic figure in LA and rescheduling the game shows respect for all the families that are grieving...

Tomorrow night's Lakers v. Clippers game has been postponed.

Wow that is interesting, when was the last time NBA game as been postponed, I am know they are grieving but they could have at least did the game even with a moment of silence. Plus when or if are they going to make the game up?

I feel that all NBA games should be suspended until after Kobe's funeral. Let them mourn. Let them remember this amazing legend. They can make it up afterwards and move the Finals up several days.

It last happened after the JFK assassination in 1963.

Many games have been postponed since then. Usually due to weather or problems with an arena. This is different. Rescheduling the game is the proper thing to do. If the Lakers had been scheduled to play on Sunday, they likely would not have played...

Had they would have played, it would have bene a road game as their stadium was being used for the Grammys. And even with it coming up, would they have been given the choice to play or not?

I brought it up on the page for In Memorium but how would it be possible for all games to be made up if all games get canceled, or have team's games ended shorter then 82 games. And right now there is no date yet schedule for either a funeral or a mermaid service for him and his daughter.

Last game cancelled/rescheduled was Boston when the boston marathon bombing happened

Better would be to actually add some games to raise funds... and awareness for... the groups and activities that Kobe sponsored or supported.

This would be a good chance to do some games with "all star" characteristics where each player would support a particular charity or community event or goal. And collectively, they could back the groups that Kobe supported as well. It would be both a tribute, and a chance to demonstrate that many players give back with time, money and support to different community groups.

And the regular games could each back one of the all-star event, with attendee ticket charges going in part for the Kobe-related campaigns.

The 'actual' All-Star game is less than 3 weeks away... I would bet a lot of Kobe at that event, and especially since the Hall of Fame has already decided he will be enshrined posthumously later this year (he was already eligible this year).

I think NBC reported last night it was his middle daughter (or second oldest, however you want to put it).

That would be a good idea if you have connections in NBA, the Chicago Bulls did their tribute to Kobe Bryant before last night's game, along with a moment of silence, and both the Bulls and Spurs took violations. When the Lakers do return to play the rest of their games, are they going to have any tribute for him for the rest of this season? Like say a patch on their jerseys, or maybe by both nets have his number on their floor if they can do it. I know when Harry Caray died in 1998, that the Cubs for that season had a Harry Caray patch on their jerseys for that season. And when Stan Mikita died in 2018, for the season the Chicago Blackhawks had his number on their jerseys, and behind both goal nets they had his number on the ice.

The NBA all star game is taking place at the United Center in Chicago, which will mark the first all star game to take place in Chicago since the Chicago White Sox hosted the MLB all Star Game in 2003. And that is great that either case he is getting enshrined in the NBA Hall of Fame this year, the bad part is that he is not here to enjoy it.
