Money.
I think it makes sense because TV ratings on Saturday night are just awful. Live sports gets decent ratings on Saturday night, but this is an awards show that (if live in prime time) would get killed by regular season NBA, NCAA, and NHL games. The tape delay allows for it to be cut down to a manageable length for the broadcast network.
At least NDA the reporters so stuff doesn't leak out early.
CBS, ESPN, everyone but the NFL and Fox had everything up on their websites right as it happened. With cell phones and social media, anyone who attends is a reporter.
Doing the show live should bring in even more as people would actually watch it.
I mentioned there was another NFL event tonight, and it was the annual Bud Music Fest. Similar to the NFL Awards, they pre-taped the performances and aired them as a late night special on Fox. I just received this note:
In case you missed SUPER BOWL EVE, night three of Bud Light Super Bowl Music Fest, highlights include Demi Lovato joining Dan + Shay for a performance of "Speechless, Adam Levine paying tribute to Kobe Bryant and more.
NFL Network and ESPN have the rights to show the NFL Draft. Also Hall of Fame Announcements were in it but not a lot about it on Networks not like MLB Announcement on MLB Network. The Draft is live but the channels that get to televise the Super Bowl NBC/CBS/FOX don't get to show Draft live.
