TV Show Cancellation Thread (including ending ones)

https://deadline.com/2020/02/tyler-perrys-if-loving-you-is-wrong-end-season-5-own-1202852213/

The end is in sight for Tyler Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong. OWN said today the drama series will end with the upcoming fifth season, which premieres at 10 PM Tuesday, March 10.

“We are grateful to Tyler Perry and the talented cast and crew for giving us five incredibly entertaining seasons,” OWN president Tina Perry said. “We can’t wait for fans to see the jaw-dropping storylines that are going to unfold this season. It delivers all the juicy drama like only Tyler Perry can.”

If Loving You Is Wrong chronicles the lives of friends and frenemies who love and live in the same neighborhood. OWN reveals the final season will reveal “some long-awaited answers to viewers’ burning questions” and will include “life-changing catastrophes that will leave the town reeling and changed forever.”

Show ends on March 10th.

“High Noon,” the experimental afternoon talk show starring Bomani Jones and Pablo Torre, is being canceled by ESPN, the network confirmed on Monday.

The show will continue until the end of March, leaving time for a proper farewell. Still, it’s an unglamorous end to a show that was launched with much fanfare in 2018. The marketing rollout featured baby pictures of the two stars; it was shot in 24 frames per second instead of the usual 30 or 60, lending it a more dramatic look than traditional TV punditry. It was given an hour time slot, and Jones was the subject of a big GQ profile ahead of the launch.

“High Noon” was overseen by hitmaking producer Erik Rydholm, the creator of a big block of ESPN’s popular afternoon programming, including “Pardon the Interruption,” “Highly Questionable” and “Around the Horn.”

Ranked top 30 in the U.S. broadcast ratings in all but one season. Phenomenal for a Friday night TV show. It ran its course and Magnum P.I/Blue Bloods will lead onward with the Friday crime dramas.

At least one report suggested Alex O'Loughlin felt he just couldn't keep going with the stunts required for the show, after having toughed it out for years after a back injury. A decade of age will do that to you, and understandable if true. Also one of those shows where while much of the cast can come and go, it's tough to do H50 without McGarrett leading the way. Then layer in the standard higher costs that come with longevity, and the path was clear. If McGyver holds up it could round out the Friday slate for next year--should CBS continue on with the drama lineup.

No reason they shouldn't. Blue Bloods is routinely in the Top 20 and MacGyver and Magnum are both solid. A 10 year run for H50 was pretty good.

Amazon Studios will no longer be going to SXSW, Variety has learned. The two screenings and panels planned for “Tales of the Loop” and “Upload,” in addition to a consumer marketing activation, have been canceled amid concerns over the spread of coronavirus. So far, 11 cases of the respiratory illness have been confirmed in Texas, where SXSW takes place every year.

The move follows Facebook and Twitter’s recent decisions to withdraw their participation from the annual music, technology and entertainment festival in Austin, which runs from March 13 to March 22. It is not yet clear whether activities associated with non-studio divisions of Amazon have been canceled as well.

A screening of the first two episodes of “Upload” had been set for the afternoon of March 14 at the Stateside Theatre. Following the showing of science fiction comedy from “The Office’s” Greg Daniels, certain cast and crew members were slated to participate in a Q&A.

“Tales of the Loop,” a Nathaniel Halpern science fiction drama based on the artwork of Swedish artist Simon Stalenhag, was set to screen at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema South Lamar the night of March 16, followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew.

Amazon Studios has cancelled SXSW due to COVID-19 concerns.

Hardly a shock. Bradley Whitford was awful and insulted many of whom were likely in the target audience for this show just prior to the first episode aired.
