Firings at Beasley

This morning Radio Ink has reported that Beasley has let go of 67 people. It also mentioned that Caroline Breasley has taken a 20% paycut also. Does anyone know how much their Boston cluster has been affected by this?

Going strictly by on-air personalities listed on station websites, nobody is missing from WROR, WBZ (Sports Hub), WKLB, WBQT (Hot 96.9) or WBOS. Of course, that does not account for anything happening with off-air people.

Furloughed employees are not considered laid off. They are still on a company's payroll with zero hours worked and leave status. They wouldn't be missing from station websites if that's where you're going with this.

Only 20% ???

Meanwhile her staff gets laid off, furloughed or still has to take a 10% cut.

She shouldn't be taking a dime through all of this.

The press release didn't say "furloughed"...it said their jobs were "eliminated".

The company announced that 67 positions across the company have been eliminated.

Semantics? Maybe.....

It also says what it reads : 18 full-timers and an unspecified number of part-timers are being furloughed.

“As a result, our CEO, CAROLINE BEASLEY is taking a 20% reduction in salary during the second quarter. All salaried full-time employee wages will be reduced by 10% for the second quarter, respecting existing contractual obligations. We have eliminated a total of 67 positions across the company, furloughed 18 full-time employees and are furloughing several part-time employees.

Just pointing out there are 2 situations here...jobs being furloughed...and jobs being eliminated.

Sometimes companies will eliminate vacant jobs, in other words not hire for certain positions. Not saying that's what this is, but a possibility.

I think these companies are hoping this is a short term thing, not permanent. Thus the furloughs.

Krazy K00ner mentioned earlier this week a bunch of people were laid off at iHeart too

BTW the way the gov't $2 trillion bailout works is companies qualify by keeping employees. They can apply for a debt-free loan if they don't fire people. So that's why you see Beasley and iHeart furloughing staff rather than simply firing them.

That's my employer's reason behind furloughs rather than layoffs. I just hope, given the administration's attitude toward the media, that media entities are treated equally in the loan application process.

To clear up some confusion...

Furlough - Stops receiving a paycheck, but keeps full benefits and could be reinstated with paycheck at any time.
Eliminations - Active workers sent packing with a severance.

All of the Beasley Boston eliminations were support staff - Sales, Traffic, Promotions.

What a shame.

Under CARES act, furloughed employees will receive unemployment benefits up to 4 months at their full salary.

And, in the cases of companies furloughing employees, the company maintains their health benefits while they are not reporting for work for that company. If they find employment elsewhere, then obviously their benefits end.
