Who is already missing sports on TV?

Trump has called major league commissioners (including Roger Goodell) with hopes to have fans back to sports games by the end of summer.

While I agree it would be nice to have sports back with fans, I just don't see it happening. I think the MLB will return, and the NFL will return, FANLESS. And all players tested rigorously for COVID. That's even if the cases go down nationwide by August.
Fans in the audience can spread Coronavirus and start wave #2 and more stay-at-home orders well into fall and early 2021.

Sports of any flavor this year won't look very good. Performance level will probably be down a notch or two. But, they'll have to start somewhere..

State of California has issued a statement on the NFL's and College Football's future in the fall.

The NBA, NHL and MLB would all be playing right now if not for the spread of COVID-19, and it now sounds like the NFL may be in jeopardy as well.

During a Saturday press conference, California Governor Gavin Newsom stated that he does not expect normal NFL or college football games to be played in front of full stadiums in the state of California later in the year.

"I'm not anticipating that happening in this state," Newsom said. "We've all seen the headlines over the last couple days in Asia where they opening up certain businesses and now they're starting to roll back those openings because they're starting seeing some spread and there's a boomerang. One has to be very cautious here, one has to be careful not to overpromise."

MLB management to consider the empty stadiums approach. Umm even that sounds uncertain as some states fear spikes in their areas. I could see MLB having to follow the NBA, Nascar, F1 and IndyCar to move their game to the Esports edition.

Major League Baseball is reportedly considering starting the 2020 season with games at spring training sites in either Florida or Arizona without fans in attendance because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported Friday the chances of playing games at home parks this summer with a crowd are becoming "increasingly remote," leading the league to consider alternatives. However, trying to station all 30 clubs in one area would be "extremely complex and potentially controversial" amid COVID-19.

There are numerous hurdles MLB would need to jump before making the plan reality.

Yesterday I saw only one sports event listed. "Trackside Live!" is horse racing. Wonder what they would cover?

Racetracks are still operating, with no one in attendance, in five states: Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma, California and Nebraska. Florida and Arkansas are home to two major tracks -- Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park -- and one second-tier track that still attracts betting interest -- Tampa Bay Downs. Those are the tracks that Trackside Live is focusing on. Santa Anita, California's major track, was ordered to stop conducting racing by the LA County Commissioner last weekend; a minor track, Los Alamitos, just outside the county line, continues to race.

Betting, where legal, is available online from a variety of companies. That betting, incidentally, has surged over the past three weeks. People who had stopped paying attention to racing are coming back, and people who'd been playing casino games or betting on team sports are getting acquainted with the game. This can't go on forever, and if the pandemic is going to spike this month as predicted, I think even the tracks now running will have to shut down for a spell. Several notable jockeys and trainers have already announced they won't be taking the risk of coming to any of the tracks. Horses are immune to COVID-19. Their care, especially for small-time owners, will be a serious problem should this crisis continue for months, as most think it will.

Hmmm, so today ESPN2 is showing Madden 20 Challenge. Video games on TV. OK.

Their new phrase is "ESPN: We Miss It Too."

What else can you show? I'd take live video games over the 2,432nd airing of SportsCenter.

I think that's an interesting form of filler. Just look at the numbers of regular viewers over at Twitch. Sports fans spend hours watching other's play Madden or other sports video games. Why not take it to Cable? These are need-to-be-creative times. Not just close up shop, as some would prefer.

I hope that if the ratings prove popular enough for classic and e-sports that the networks will continue to use this for times on weekends when there is no live sports once things return to (relatively) normal, rather than turning the time back to local stations who will most likely fill it with infomercials.

I tried watching the Nascar and NBA e games and they both looked like watching video games. Can't do it.

Well Fox carried a rebroadcast of Super Bowl XLV yesterday and it was trending on Twitter. And the eSports NASCAR simulations have proved to be a winner. So maybe it's working, especially with nearly everyone waiting for stay-at-home orders and the virus to go away.
