Arguably CBS Radio and Entercom were the only two strong nationwide players, from a financial perspective. Cumulus and iHeart were both about to file bankruptcy.
The next tier of companies by licenses controlled would include Salem, Univision, Townsquare, Beasley, Urban One and Cox. Calling Cox or Beasley a nationwide player seems like a stretch to me. And Salem, Univision, Urban One and Townsquare have niches that do not include the mass-appeal, major-market stations that CBS was selling.
