KJUG jumping off Blue Ridge

CP applied for. Just based on CP applied for, I have no other info. Looks like they are just moving down from the crest of Blue Ridge to the 2500' elv. (aprox.) where they would have HAAT of about 160m - allowing for 28.5kw ERP.
There's also, a CP for KCRZ to move to the same site with ERP of something a little more that 3kw @ about 160m HAAT.
This site is not that far from the KIOO site with a similar HAAT/ERP. I wonder if KJUG's signal, which is currently much better than KIOO in Fresno, is going to be reduced to be on a par with the KIOO signal in Fresno. That is, almost unusable.
Obviously, Fresno is not KJUG's intended target and it looks like the move would give Tulare and Kings counties a stronger signal. It's been the trend for some time now to get closer in with a hotter signal in the prime target areas, which is what this move would do, sometimes, even if it takes a downgrade of license class. Though a downgrade is not the case here with KJUG, still a class B with this applied for CP.

Interesting. The 54dbu plot maps on the FCC site shows a wider coverage area for the proposed lower elevation site. Reaching the southeast corner of Fresno, whereas the current Blue Ridge site plot reaches just to the S/E of Sanger. Likewise to the South, the new site plot extends about 15 miles further. Of course these are theoretical and real world can be very different.

Interesting,KIOO was coming in crystal clear at River Park.It usally drops off at the Floral ave exit in Selma.

Forgetting about HAAT for the moment:
Look at actual elv. above the valley floor.
The 'new' KJUG site is roughly twice as high above the valley floor as the KIOO site - even tho their HAAT and power levels are similar. Being 2400 ft. above the valley with 25kw+- (new KJUG site) has got to be much better than being 1200ft above with the same ERP, which is what KIOO is. Ballpark figures used here.
So it looks like they will have a much hotter signal in their area of interest- Kings and Tulare counties- AND gain in secondary coverage.

Well --- Looks like KJUG forgot to look -- before it took the jump off of Blue Ridge. The application is 1.9 KM short to the KAAX Avenal CP -- that was MOVED to 106.9 by the Farmworks relocation of KBHH - 95.3 at Kerman to the old 105.5 B1 site on Bear Springs. The KBHH relocation bumped the 95.1 KAXX to 106.9 --- before the KJUG relocation was filed. OOOOPPPPPS

1.9km ...? DOOOHH!!
whats that a mile n a half at most..? seems they could slide one way or another along the ridge top to find a spot outside that 1.9km. Maybe. hmm wonder if they have a strategy for trying to get it under the wire somehow?

That can't be right for KAXX to move to 106.9 do to KQLB Los Banos that is way to close to that site.

No. The KAAX 106.9 is far enough from Los Banos. Clear by about by just over 4.5 Miles.

Yes, I see that now and I agree with mofocat with that mile or so difference for the CP for KJUG can be rectified.
Looks like they want a combined their sister station KCRZ on that site. KIOO should try to join them in the project, being higher, It would bring their signal stonger in Fresno/Clovis, KIOO comes in all the time now in Clovis with an antenna 20ft high, so KJUG "could" continue to serve the Metro Fresno/Clovis area, Madera and north probably not, as far as KCRZ serving Fresno, a directional only antenna could pull that one in, KKBZ would interfere, otherwise.

I would like to see a predicted Longley Rice map coverage of the CPs, those FCC maps are so inaccurate.

Speaking of KIOO and now coming in strong in Fresno/Clovis,has anybody else noticed they have tweaked there playlist to include stuff not played on the Fox and Blaze ? Working on my patio in Kingsburg Saturday moring heard Honeymoon Suite 'Feel it again' and The Stones 'One hit to the body' to name a couple.

Mmmm this is going to be interesting. I don't know the reason for this, but, I think elevation is a HUGE advantage. Moving to the valley floor will coverage area, even with the raised ERP. Like the 99.7 KIOO for example. I know KJUG currently goes from Fresno to Bakersfield, I even heard it in Taft and Maricopa one day. I wish 99.7 KIOO would move to the existing spot where KJUG is, but I know about 99.9 in Mariposa, so that won't work. I couldn't care less about KCRZ for Fresno, like as if we need anymore hip hop!

The best site would be to just MOVE Down -- a very short distance from the top of Blue Ridge. Keeping as much height -- but being able to increase the ERP to about 2 KW. Take note that the NEW site -- on the lower side of Blue Ridge -- is SHORT to 106.7 in Pasadena -- and requires the new KJUG to LOWER the normial max ERP. So the new site is NOT able to give maximum coverage -- as would the top of Blue Ridge.

Looks like KJUG has those objections of short spacing to KAAX and the LA 106.7 pretty well covered with a minor amendment to the app filed yesterday.

"Insert Quote
Looks like KAAX is "on the air" from a new studio in downtown Avenal with an antenna on top of the studio-office. " - if this is true, is it compliant with the CP?

Since KAAX is deleted from the FCC records. I wonder if KJUG 106.7 can move to Eshom Point where other Fresno-Vasila radio stations are located?

KARM 89.7 KSJV 91.5 KFSO 92.9 KBOS 94.9 KSEQ 97.1 KSOF 98.9 KFRR 104.1 KOND 107.5

KJUG 106.7 can not locate to Eshom Point. KUFW 106.3 would prevent them. They need to be a minimum of 44 miles between the two for FM Class B1 to Class B. KUFW would have to move a few miles to the west to allow KJUG to move up to Eshom. See image below of the 44 mile circle from the KUFW transmitter site.

Class B KFBT 103.7 Hanford (East of Caruthers)and KFRR 104.1 Woodlake (Eshom Pt.)must have barely passed, I always thought those Class B stations were to close.

Unlike AM, when an FM is closed the frequency and class are still on the table of assignments and someone else can file for them.

KJUG would have to file for a change in the table of assignments first.
