WWBA-820 moving news-talk off 820 to 1040....

WWBA-820 is moving news-talk off 820 to 1040.... The sports programming on 1040 will move to 820.
I believe this starts Monday, May 25, or Tuesday.
The local host on Friday afternoon made the announcement.

This is a reversal of several years ago when the talk programming on 1040, headlined by Mark Larson, moved to 820. Now it's going back.

I doubt NT will be that successful on the weaker 1040.

So sports will be back on 820. The last time I heard 820 out of the Tampa-St Petersburg area in Northern Illinois they were sports.

I admit I wasn't paying full attention to the announcement (I don't recall the host's name), as I was driving.
He made the announcement Friday just before he brought a woman guest on who discussed the arts and museums in Tampa and St. Pete.

Tuning the radio dial last night (how dull, so little real "radio" in Tampa), I heard sports on 820.

The host is Barry Edwards. He actually announced it on Monday, May 18, 2020.

So, today is Tuesday.
Does anyone know if and when it will happen?

820 WWBA/98.3 W252DF Largo and 96.7 W244EG Tampa have rebranded as “The Big 8” with a mix of Hot Talk and Sports. Programming includes Bubba The Love Sponge in mornings, longtime Tampa area talk personality Brenda Lee from 10am-12pm, Del Walmsley from 12-1pm, CBS Sports Radio’s Jim Rome from 1-3pm, former 620 WDAE afternoon host JP Peterson from 3-6pm and CBS Sports Radio at night.

The former “SportsTalk 1040” WHBO Pinellas Park is now just “Talk 1040” with a Conservative Talk lineup. Local hosts include Barry Edwards from 2-4pm and David Gornoski from 4-6pm with Westwood One hosts Chris Plante (10am-2pm), Michael Savage (6-9pm) and Ben Shapiro (9pm-12am) also cleared on the station.

The move has taken place.

From our friends in the Detroit market...

Aside from the laughs I get on the new Big 8 logo I just saw... I think they've done right thing moving Sports Talk to 820/translators and the Conservative Talk over to 1040.

Do the best you can with what you've got.

Now if JVC were involved here, I would just think they'd call it Man Talk 820. (Sorry TAN talk fans, I realize that moniker might sound familiar)

Nothing with Genesis ever seems to last long

Which signal is better?

820 by far... at least in daytime. It really gets out, way out of the market at least. Up to the Big Bend area and even out of the state sometimes.

Can't speak for the quality of the product not having yet-listened, but having a sports/talk radio signal with potentially more desirable listening content for 35-54 yr old guys, vs... what has been there on 820 for the past decade since they made the move of sports up to 1040 in the first place, has got to be something of an improvement I would think.

Whereas, 1040's signal is a lot more constrained into the immediate listening area, so I feel like if they're going to add yet-even-more conservative talk options to metro area... well.... yeah best to just park it up there.

You're right! Mike Rutherford left. Peter Gabriel left. Phil Collins is outta there. John Mayhew was 86'd. John Silver left.

Yours will likely be the best reply on this thread. :)

1040 this a.m. was running a syndicated sports show.
So much for conservative talk.
