Atlanta radio ratings

Is this the first time Streetz 94.5 showed up in the ratings? Impressive for a translator. Z105.7 didn’t do very well. CHR isn’t doing too well right now. I’ve noticed the CHR chart is very Urban heavy right now. Seems like when this has happened in the past, it turns away listeners from the CHR stations and moves them over to the Urban stations.

94.5’s antenna is at 1050 feet and even with only 165 watts the line of site gives it FM class A or better reception.* It is a well programmed operation, and the sixty db covers the zip codes which would have tend to have a heavy P1 urban / urban AC population.

105.7 and 105.3 had format flips. IMHO if the June ratings are heading the correct direction it will confirm my belief that iHeart got it right. Especially 105.7 signal. Urban is very completive in Atlanta it might take some time with 105.3.

A few thoughts:
1) The River continues to clobbering WNNX (there is where a format change is needed).
2) Kiss-104 and V-103 have basically changed positions since April!
3) WWWQ-3 Rhythmic CHR is getting a 1.0 on an HD signal and WNNX (a full station, also owned by Cumulus) is only getting a 1.3, seems like that might be a good switch.
4) I remember a 2.1 rating was what All News 106.7 was getting when Cumulus changed their format (higher than the 1.3 WNNX is getting today).

Ratings for WYKG 105.5 FM

Does anyone know of the ratings for the new 105.5 FM? They seem to be on the rise with Chubb Rock & SiMan Baby at the helm of the mornings.

Well, they need some inspirational help down there. This past weekend over 24 shot, 4 killed including an 8 year old girl. I'd say Atlanta is going to hell.
WHY would anyone want to live there???

WNNX & Cumulus

I know there is some discussion about WNNX and the current rock format. I know some have argued the brand of modern rock they are trying to push is weak and some say they should go strictly classic rock and ride along the lines of KZ 106 in Chattanooga which is a bit of a deeper 70s focused classic rock format.

Am I wrong to think Cumulus will still want a rock format of some sort as part of their offerings in Atlanta? How is 99x doing on 98.9? The HD signal is awful and I live too far out of Atlanta to pick up 98.9 so I only listen through iheartradio.

Rock 100.5, when classic rock, took a while before you saw the ratings bump up. In fact, they were seeing their best numbers when the switch over to the current format happened. Speaking of the current format, I'm not sure what to call it. Mainstream? It's not active rock. They don't play half of the active rock spins on most active rock stations and still lean 20 years or older. If the classic rock is what helps their ratings, why did they move into a slightly newer mix?

Either Entercom or Cumulus will want a modern rock share in Atlanta (alternative, active, etc). I feel if cumulus makes a move away from it, Entercom will make the move on 94.1 which is performed poorly. Almost like playing chicken.

Until Minneapolis most people in Atlanta were busy making money.

If you have or your family has lived in the area since the 1970’s (as my family has) the growth has been mind boggling. Ted Turner’s CNN and the Airport’s midfield terminal IMHO laid the groundwork for this growth. According to the Mayor of Atlanta over half of the retail store owners are non white inside the city limits of Atlanta. If you have the money, you can live and be accepted as a neighbor in any suburb around Atlanta. Atlanta City schools are not academic powerhouses. A lot of families that have worked hard and been successful have left southwest Atlanta (the traditional black side of town) seeking better schools and safer neighborhoods. My parents' next door neighbor when they lived in Marietta came from Southwest Atlanta. He sold jewelry and a large fortune buying and selling gold. He now lives in a gated community in Florida.

It use to be in Atlanta the only color that mattered was how much money you had. The unofficial slogan of Atlanta was “The city too busy to hate”. It really should be “The city too busy making money to care”.

According to one ATL police officer: "The people causing trouble don't live here."

(end of political talk)

Atlanta area local

Well I'd feel police should be walking on foot in town,be a mix of Black White,Korean, and Women officers,Should not be able to shut off there body cam. All wearing vest.Be respectful of every one.

That University Avenue area (where the Wendy's was torched) used to be a "mechanixville" for the neighboring rail yards. As the railroads automated, it was no longer a labor intensive business. Those who could moved out. Those who couldn't stayed behind. Properties were abandoned as skyscrapers grew downtown,
The area became a poverty zone with most residents on government assistance. Today the area has been taken over by thugs.
The construction of the Wendy's was part of an economic re-vitalization program of the area. It was deemed profitable as it was just off the heavily traveled connector.
Governor Kemp has just called out the national guard to take back the area after an 8 year old girl was killed.

I feel Atlanta has a large group of LGBT followers that might play in to ratings.Say WSTR would run with this format might be big in numbers Aug ratings.

The issue with lifesytyle / gender as a programming basis is that there is no uniformity in music tastes... or even talk radio subjects... among those groups or their subgroups.

Stereotyping LGBTQ folks as "they all like EDM" is actually somewhat offensive, in fact.

Men, women, gay, straight and every other identifiable group has diverse tastes in music, literature, even TV shows and restaurants.

This is always an interesting topic for discussion as it goes back to the basic "nature / nurture" discussion topics and have many ramifications in sociology.

Doesn't mean they wouldn't flock to retail and services that are perceived to "identify" with that identifiable group. According to Simmons Market Research, 72% of Christian radio listeners prefer to buy from a business that advertises on their radio station. And 62% say that they would "shop more at a known business if it advertised on Christian radio.

Atlanta radio rating

National advertising wise, theirs a lot gold in the LGBTQ community some untapped by radio. And a station as WSTR going down, wouldn't in my thought have any thing to lose to try something along these lines.
