ESPN 97.5 Houston Adds 92.5 Simulcast

Getting back on topic: Gow is again doing splits: 92.5 is carrying the national feed of the Astros playoff games, while normal local programming continues on 97.5.

The TOH ID on KFNC has changed: It now includes an additional reference to an HD-2, which could be the feeder for 92.5. I am not receiving any HD on 97.5 at my Cy-Fair location, though I have no problem getting HD on 98.5 and 107.9, also eastern rimshots.

However, doing some measuring, the KFNC transmitter is about nine miles further away from my location than the two Estrella Media rimshots. So perhaps that additional distance is too much for any presumed HD signal to cover. Or the HD signal, if it exists, is much lower power than the other rimshots. Anyone in the east side of the market with an HD radio able to check on this?

In The Heights I wasn’t able to pick up anything on HD2 from this station. I was listening amd they were interviewing a soccer player, he didn’t speak English they were translating for him. And they mentioned to listen live Saturday on 92.5 for the soccer match .

Let's hope there isn't a problem in not using an HD signal to feed a translator. People like Centro Cristiano have been doing it. If it was that big of a deal the FCC would have been onto them by now. KFNC deserves a chance too LOL.

UH duh, thats a problem, a big problem.

And as far as the fcc catching on.. a broadcaster really has to complain about it

It doesn't matter if KFNC is doing anything with their HD2, HD1 or if the translator is "rebroadcasting" the analog FM signal for that matter. The 92.5 translator's signal lies almost entirely outside the licensed 60 dBu contour of KFNC. Translators cannot extend the coverage of the commercial station they're rebroadcasting unless there is zero business relationship between the licensee of the translator and the station being rebroadcast.

This is is one report to the FCC away from a major fine, unless the translator owner is just rebroadcasting KFNC out of the goodness of their heart and just loves ESPN programing that much. There can be no financial consideration given to the translator owner by Gow. That seems really unlikely.

KFNC can do that with any translator whose signal lies entirely within their 60 dBu contour. This translator's licensed signal lies almost entirely outside KFNC's 60 dBu.

That's not a problem, since the FCC hasn't caught on. You all have to report these people if you want the corruption in your radio area cleared up. Have any of you complained about Centro?

The issue is that the major stations don't pay any attention to the ultra-rimshots, translators and AM stations in general unless they actually interfere with their own signals. It's like ground clutter on radar: insignificant.

But the moment any of them cause interference, the response will be instantaneous.

The FCC does have a complaint system where consumers can file complaints without knowing how to file informal objections and petitions to deny. But I've used it before and nothing's been done about what I've reported.

I know some of the low power FM advocacy groups have issues with how the Guel translator cartel operates. They definitely know how to handle the filings. Maybe have a chat with them?

Surely you guys have better things to do than file a complaint against stations that in no way affect you.. Let me complain to the police about my neighbors down the street .. i think one of them has a car with a expired sticker..

How do you know they don’t affect us?

The illegal 92.5 operation is potentially impacting 610 and 790.

If 97.5 didn’t think it would, they wouldn’t be doing it.

Here's where the annoyance comes in: Many of us who "follow the rules" in life are sick and tired of those who ignore the rules, or openly and willfully violate them, and get away with it. Ah, but I guess "rules are only for losers and unimportant people" as the power elite in this country too often believes.

In Texas car registration requirements have been temporarily suspended during the pandemic, so technically nobody's sticker is expired, even if past the month/year indicated for renewal.
